Arkansas State Police have identified the three people killed Monday as a result of two chain-reaction collisions on Interstate 49 near Fouke.

A crash report said two Fouke residents were killed in the first crash, which occurred at 11:45 p.m. when a 2007 Kenworth commercial truck slowed down because of dense fog and was rear-ended by a 1997 Ford van. The report lists six vehicles involved in the chain-reaction collision along the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Ford van, Dennis Hyman Jr., 53, was killed in the crash. Johnie Patterson Jr., 38, the driver of a 2010 Ford Edge involved in the pileup, was also killed in the crash, the report said.

The drivers of two of the vehicles, Anndria Dyess, 21, of Houston, and Shannon Winowich, 35, of Texarkana, Texas, were both injured in the crash. Passengers in two of the vehicles, Kristine Patterson, 37, of Fouke and Seth Brittain, 23, of Houston were also injured in the crash.

Terry Bailey, 54, of Huntington stopped his vehicle in the outside lane of I-49 south to help, the report said. Bailey was hit and killed by a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu.

Around the same time as the first collision, three commercial carrier trucks collided in the northbound lanes of traffic directly across the highway median from the southbound crash scene, the release said. One of the trucks was transporting a large amount of glue that spilled from the containers onto the highway.

In addition to the three people killed, seven more people were injured and transported to Christus St. Michael Health Care and Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana. More people reported minor injuries but declined medical attention.

Fog was dense at the time of the crashes, the report said.
