Four Auburn football players have been arrested on misdemeanor drug charges, including starting cornerback Carlton Davis. Davis, defensive end Byron Cowart, wide receiver Ryan Davis and cornerback Jeremiah Dinson were arrested Saturday on charges of seconddegree possession of marijuana, Auburn police Capt. Lorenza Dorsey said Monday. All four are 19 years old. Dorsey said they were arrested on the 100 block of E. Samford Avenue just off campus. He said he did not have details of the arrests. Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said the four players were brought to the jail at about 10 p. m. Saturday and were released on bond about two hours later. Tigers Coach Gus Malzahn issued a statement saying: “I am aware of the situation and we will handle this matter appropriately.” Carlton Davis started nine games as a freshman last season, making 56 tackles and a team- high three interceptions. Cowart was rated the nation’s top prospect coming out of high school last year by multiple recruiting services but played sparingly. He had 6 tackles and 6 quarterback hurries in 13 games. Ryan Davis is a sophomore who didn’t have a catch but ran twice for a total of 20 yards. Dinson sustained a season- ending right knee injury in the Texas A& M game last November. He finished with 15 tackles in nine games.

A Troy University player has died following a motorcycle crash in Alabama. Gulf Shores Police Sgt. Jonathan Woodruff told local news outlets that 19- year- old Nathan Harris was driving a motorcycle Saturday morning on U. S. 231. For unknown reasons, Woodruff ’ s motorcycle struck the end of a flatbed truck tandem trailer carrying lumber. Harris was a Gulf Shores native. According to a news release from Troy University Athletics, Harris joined the Troy football team as a walk- on in the fall semester and worked his way up to the team’s starting holder. Troy Athletic Director Jeremy McClain called Harris’ death an “unthinkable tragedy” in the statement, and said the university will “provide support and comfort for his teammates, friends and coaches as they go through the grieving process.”
