–––––❖––––– BENTON — Gerald Edward Wilson, 77, of Benton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 26, 2016. He passed away at home surrounded by his family. Gerald was born August 5, 1938 in Benton, Arkansas to the late Phillip and Irene Wilson. He was a member of the Church of God and retired owner of Gerald Wilson Automotive. His favorite pastimes were traveling, serving in church and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James “Curly” Wilson and granddaugh­ter, Autumn Angel Wilson.

–––––❖––––– FAYETTEVIL­LE — Nancy Peeler Barnhill Trumbo, a resident of Butterfiel­d Trail Village, Fayettevil­le, Arkansas, departed this life ,July 26, 2016 in Fayettevil­le. She was born December 30, 1940, in

Knoxville, Tennessee, the daughter of John H. (Barney) Barnhill, former Razorback football coach and Athletic Director, and Katherine Peeler Barnhill, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a 1958 graduate of Fayettevil­le High School, a student for one year at Stephen’s College in Columbia, Missouri, and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. While teaching at Woodland Junior High School for 15 years, she was a favorite teacher of many students. In addition, she was cheerleadi­ng sponsor and supported athletics by assisting at the scorer’s table. Her teaching career ended early when she retired due to rheumatoid arthritis. Nancy also was involved with Trumbo’s, a men’s clothing store, establishe­d by her husband, Ellis. She enjoyed many sporting events, holding season tickets to U of A football and basketball games. Along with her husband and their friends, they traveled to many SWC and SEC postseason tournament­s, as well as many March Madness games. As a member of Fayettevil­le Country Club Women’s Golf Associatio­n, Nancy was chairman for its 9-hole player’s group. Working crossword puzzles and visiting with friends are among some of the other things Nancy enjoyed. A tradition for many years, Nancy and Ellis met with a group of friends for dinner every Thursday. Nancy has also been a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include: Ellis Trumbo, her husband of 53 years; Bass Trumbo, brother-in-law, and his wife Ruth Ann; several Trumbo family nephews, nieces, and their families; three Peeler family cousins; and, numerous friends.

–––––❖––––– HARRISON — Harry Samuel “Sam” Rankin, 78, of Harrison, Arkansas, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1938, at Pine Bluff to Toney Edward and Effie Davis Rankin. Sam attended schools at Dollarway and Karnack, Texas. He served in the United Sates Navy as a Medical Field Service Technician. He had worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring as Lock Master over Lock & Dam 4.

Sam loved Christian fellowship and was a faithful witness for his Lord. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and especially enjoyed singing gospel music. He was instrument­al in organizing the Hardin Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for several years, was a National Representa­tive of Arkansas Jaycees and an avid golfer.

He is preceded in death by a son, Floyd Edward Rankin; his parents; sisters, Lois Nichols, Betty Birkner, Mary Ann Wilson, Nancy Sowrheaver, Gladys Spakes; brothers, Tom, John and Toney Rankin. –––––❖––––– HOT SPRINGS — John Steven Thornton died July 25, 2016. Born April 5, 1954, to Willard and Bobby Thornton. Survivors include wife Cynthia Thornton, brothers Tom (Karen) Thornton, Jim Thornton, Joe (Jennifer) Thornton, and numerous nieces, nephews.

John attended Mt. Ida High School and graduated from Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State University and got his graduate degree from Norwich University. He was a retired Therapist and most recently worked at Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvan­ia, where he and his wife lived before retiring to Hot Springs. John was a member of First Baptist Church. One of the Sons of Confederat­e Veterans he loved anything related to the Civil War. He loved fishing and almost all sports. He had numerous pets and will be missed by them and all his friends and relatives and most especially by Cynthia, his wife of 31 years.

–––––❖––––– MARVELL — Betsy Kinder Campbell, 91, of Marvell, Ark., passed away Tuesday July 26, 2016 at her home. She was born on June 5, 1925 in Atkins, Ark., to Fred and Louise Griffin Kinder. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert I. (Bobby) Campbell.

She is survived by one sister, Carrie Lou Stelzner of Roswell, New Mexico: one son, Kin Campbell (Becca) of Russellvil­le; three daughters, Annie Head (Chris) of Flower Mound, Texas, Nina Guest (Shelton) of Marvell, Beth Pickler (David) of Germantown, Tenn.; eight grandchild­ren, Chad Campbell (Colleen), Heather Deering (Daniel), Lindsay Culp, Stuart Head (Allison), Lee Guest (Leigh Ann), Tonya Hodges, Chris Pickler (Amy), Katie Pickler; 14 great-grandchild­ren, Zayne and Alyssa Campbell, Kassidy Haggard, Adelyn Deering, Ashlyn and Addison Culp, Savannah, Molleigh, Hudson, and Scarlett Head, Macleigh Guest, Faith and Jake Hodges, Julianne Pickler; and numerous family members, church family, friends, former students and many who called her “Granny”.

Betsy was an involved member of the Marvell United Methodist Church, a longtime employee of the Marvell School District, volunteer teaching even after retirement, and an active participan­t in civic affairs in Marvell. She was honored to have been Marvell Citizen of the year in 1995 and Arkansas Volunteer of the year in 1996. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r who left a legacy of memories and personaliz­ed treasures. That love extended to all she encountere­d as she ministered to others through visitation­s, poetry, and personal correspond­ences. Her life can be characteri­zed by her unselfishn­ess in giving and investing in people.

–––––❖––––– PINE BLUFF — Bobby Joe Anderson, 82, of Pine Bluff, died at home Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Born in Franklin County, Ark., October 20, 1933, a son of William Roy and Naomi Singleton Anderson, he grew up and attended schools in White Hall, Ark.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952, serving during the Korean Conflict, being honorably discharged as a Petty Officer Third Class in 1956. Returning to Arkansas he joined the Pine Bluff Fire Department, serving 20 years before retiring as a Captain in 1977. He founded Anderson Electric in Pine Bluff and retired from that business in 1989. He was an active member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Gray Anderson who he married in 1959; son, Bobby Darrell Anderson (Sandy); daughter, Terry Anderson; grandchild­ren, Mindy McCullough, Rachel Rushing, Brandy Brasel, Brandon Brasel; great-grandchild­ren, Justin Woolley, Ava Rae Rushing, Kyler Ryan Elder. His brother, William Roy Anderson, Jr.; sisters, Montein Walker, Janie O’Quinn; and parents preceded him in death.

–––––❖––––– SARATOGA — John H. Lewis went to live with the Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2016. John was born to Ean and Mary Lewis, October 15, 1937 in McKamie, Arkansas. Following high school, John served four years in the Air Force. He went on to complete his education at Texarkana Community College.

He met and married the love of his life, Cardie Lee Bradley, on December 26, 1966. That union was ultimately blessed with one son, Frederick F. Lewis. As a man of faith, John professed his faith and love for Christ at Harmony Church of Christ. He continued to be a “good and faithful servant” until the Lord called him to a greater service.

John gave constantly to his community by serving for twelve years on the Hempstead County Quorum Court as Justice of the Peace District Eight. He served several terms in the 1980s and 1990s, during which time he served as Notary Public. He was also a former board member of the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department Associatio­n.

John worked for Day and Zimmerman Ammunition for fourteen years before his twenty-five year tenure with Georgia Pacific Paper Mill as Quality Assurance Inspector. He retired from work to a more committed life of service in 2001. He provided full-time care to his loving wife of 40 years until her passing.

His constant life of service was highlighte­d by his more than 30 years of service to the Lions Club. In 1984, John became a charter member of the Saratoga Tri-County Lions Club. He previously served as President and Board Member. John served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Saratoga Tri-County Club. Some of the of many offices John held over the years included District Governor of Arkansas District 7-L, Vice District Governor, Deputy District Governor, Region Chairman and Zone Chairman. In honor of his service, John received the Vice District Governor Leadership Plaque, two Certificat­es of Appreciati­on, Internatio­nal President’s Commendati­on and Internatio­nal President’s Certificat­e of Appreciati­on.

John traveled the state in his work for the Lions Club and was instrument­al in establishi­ng several new clubs, including the Little River and Texarkana Evening Clubs. He also worked with the Leo Youth of Lions. He was an active supporter and advocate of the work of the Lions Clubs until his death.

John was preceded in death by his wife, his parents as well as two brothers and two sisters. Left to celebrate his life and mourn his passing is his devoted and loving son Frederick F. Lewis, and two brothers and four sisters.
