––––– – –––– BRYANT — Ellen Ruth Pilkington, 67, of Bryant, Arkansas, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, August 28, 2016. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., on July 22, 1949, to Don and Mary Foster who preceded her in death.

In 1970, Ellen married the love of her life and best friend, Don Pilkington. They enjoyed many memory- filled years together. Ellen loved to cook, bake, read, and anything to do with decorating. She is survived by her daughter Tiffany Rogers, son Don( Jessica) Pilkington, one granddaugh­ter Addie Pilkington, two brothers, Charlie ( Debbie) Foster, and Jim( Connie) Foster.

––––– – –––– CABOT — Larry Thomas Cates, 68, of Cabot, went to his heavenly home Saturday, August 27,

2016. He was born September 16, 1947, in Sherrill, Arkansas to the late Thomas Cates and Ines Charles Cates. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam, and was a member of Cabot Church of Christ. Larry was an official measurer for the Boone and Crockett Club. He was master joke and story teller, and was the life of any gathering. He loved music and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. He also built several homes in central Arkansas as a contractor. He loved his family, friends, and his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Geneva Cates, Ruth Bearden, and Kitty Krol; and one great- grandchild. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anita Hill Cates; children, Becky Lanelle, Erica Booth, Larry Cates Jr., Chrystan Cates, and Emily Cates; siblings, Billy Cates, Betty Onderbeke, Sharon Cates, and Gary Cates; grandchild­ren, Trey Jones, Haley Jones, Macie Jones, Rachel Cates, and Gabriella Cates; and four great- grandchild­ren.

––––– – –––– HOT SPRINGS — Larry Jay Stone, age 68, of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Nashville, Arkansas to the late Pete and Ruffie Lee Copeland Stone.

Larry was a 1965 graduate of Nashville High School and an honor graduate from the University of Arkansas with a Master’s degree in civil engineerin­g. He continued doctoral work at the University of Houston. He founded his engineerin­g firm first in Longview, Texas and then expanded into Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Survivors are his wife of 44 years, Patricia Hardin Stone; sons, Jeremy Stone ( Amy) of Hot Springs and Matthew Stone ( Mandi) of Mineral Springs; three grandchild­ren, Conner, Jackson, and Reagan Stone; sister, Linda Jones ( Herschel) of Cotton Valley, Louisiana; as well as a number of family members and friends.

Born July 12, 1925 at New Edinburg, he was a son of the late James Hiram Langford and Pearlie Towery Langford. He worked in constructi­on, mostly building sawmills; a member of Kingsland First Baptist Church and a deacon for 50 years; a Navy veteran of World War II; and a member of the Kingsland Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel Dean “Dinky” Selman Langford; three sisters, Dorothy McCalliste­r, Martha Catherine Smith, Ann Crook; three brothers, Gordon Langford, Gerald Langford, Charles Langford. She was born January 11, 1925 in Providence, Rhode Island, a daughter of the late Rodosindo Corvese and Michelina Bovenzi Corvese. Mrs. Humphries was a retired Arkansas state employee. She was a faithful member of Rison Baptist Church and a founding member of Faith Baptist Church of North Little Rock.

Mrs. Humphries was precedv ed in death by her parents; a son, Charles Neal Humphries Jr.; a sister, Mary Bucci; and two brothers, Armanda Corvese and Umberto Corvese. Survivors include her loving husband of 71 years, Charles Neal Humphries Sr. of Rison whom she married on December 5, 1944; son, Alan Humphries and wife Deborah, of Rison; daughter- in- law, Carolyn Humphries of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvan­ia; eight grandchild­ren, Sondra, Michael, Renee, Natasha, Mandy, Jud, Lindsey, and Joshua; and nine great- grandchild­ren.

––––– – –––– RUSSELLVIL­LE — Marie Smithers, age 83, of San Antonio, Texas, and former long- time resident of Russellvil­le, passed away from this life to her new heavenly home on August 27, 2016, at the San Antonio Downtown Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. She was born June 26, 1933 in Carlisle to Lavon and Ernestine Holden Gunn.

She was the owner of Smithers Realty, being one of the first female real estate brokers in the River Valley and was the first woman to work at Arkansas Nuclear Plant ( ANO) for Bechtel. She and her husband, J. D. Smithers, started Smithers Constructi­on. She loved to play bridge and enjoyed all of her bridge friends. She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. She was a wonderful and devoted mother that loved her children deeply and raised them in the ways of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Smithers; a son, John Douglas Smithers; a grandson, James Joshua “JJ” Brooks; a sister, Flo Jared; two brothers, Otha Gunn and Milton Gunn; and a beloved sister- inlaw, Rachel Gunn.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Farrar; a daughter, Yvonne DeLynn Smithers ( Gary Detherage); a son, Jeff Smithers ( Lori) of Fredricksb­urg, Texas; a sister, Jean Vaught of Wynn; a sister- in- law, Willie Jeff Ison of Benton; and two grandsons, Jake Smithers of Portland, Oregon and Luke Smithers of New York, New York.
