Forty-nine years after crowds greeted them with jeers and taunts upon integrating Central High School, the Little Rock Nine were honored Monday with the dedication of 10 marble benches on the school’s front lawn. Three of the Nine — Thelma Mothershed Wair, Minnijean Brown Trickey and Elizabeth Eckford — attended the event. “It’s as much of a reminder to the people here as it is to us,” Minnijean Brown Trickey said after the ceremony. “It reminds, affirms and includes. It includes all of these young people in that event and brings us to them in such a way.”
