David Pryor to join Rutherford at UAM

MONTICELLO — Former U. S. Sen. David Pryor, D- Ark., and Skip Rutherford, dean of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, will be the featured speakers Thursday at the Southeast Arkansas Political Animals Club.

The event will be held at 6 p. m. in the Capitol Room of the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s John F. Gibson University Center, said John Davis, assistant professor of political science and director of government­al relations at UAM.

Admission is free and open to the general public. Pizza and beverages will be provided at the event.

Pryor has been a longtime political leader in the state. He was Arkansas’ 4th Congressio­nal District representa­tive from 1966- 1973. From 1975- 1979, he was Arkansas’ governor. Later, he won a seat in the U. S. Senate, a position he held from 1979- 1997. Pryor now serves on the University of Arkansas System board of trustees.

Rutherford led the planning and constructi­on of the Clinton Presidenti­al Center in Little Rock and served as founding president of the William J. Clinton Foundation. He was an administra­tive assistant to Pryor. Rutherford is the founding chairman and creator of the Political Animals Club of Little Rock, the first organizati­on of its kind in Arkansas.

The Southeast Arkansas Political Animals Club is a nonpartisa­n group for southeast Arkansans who seek civil discussion of political and policy issues. There are no membership fees to join the club.
