FOOTBALL Williams’ funeral today The funeral for Springdale senior wide receiver Kyler Williams will be at 10 a. m. today at Christian Life Cathedral in Fayettevil­le.

Williams, 17, was killed Saturday night in a single- vehicle accident about five miles south of U. S. 412 near Marble. He was driving a 2002 Suzuki north on Arkansas 21 when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned several times before he was ejected, according to a fatal crash summary from the Arkansas State Police. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, said Jarred Rogers, Madison County coroner.

The Bulldogs football team will recognize the receiver this week against crosstown rival Springdale Har- Ber as well as for the remainder of the season. Stickers honoring Williams will be worn on each Springdale player’s helmet.

Area schools, including each member of the 7A- West, will also honor Williams on Friday. Student sections across the region will hold a “Red Out” theme as tribute to Williams, his family and the Springdale community.

Nearly $ 33,000 has been donated to the Kyler Williams Memorial Fund, more than doubling the goal of $ 15,000. The GoFundMe page for Williams set up by the Bulldog Football program has been shared on social media more than 4,800 times.

Williams caught 31 passes for 575 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. He had 933 yards and five touchdowns as a junior in 2015. — Northwest Arkansas Democrat- Gazette

Lonoke coach resigns Lonoke Coach Doug Bost has resigned after a 1- 3 start with the Jackrabbit­s this season.

Lonoke Superinten­dent Suzanne Bailey said in a statement Tuesday night she was appreciati­ve of Bost’s contributi­ons to the football program.

Bost has coached at Lonoke since 2009 and compiled a 46- 38 record. He led the Jackrabbit­s to the Class 4A state championsh­ip game in 2009, losing to Shiloh Christian.

This season Lonoke has struggled, losing three consecutiv­e after a season- opening victory over longtime rival Carlisle 41- 28. The Jackrabbit­s lost 48- 21 at home last Friday to Heber Springs in their 2- 4A Conference opener.

Defensive coordinato­r Taggart Moore will serve as Lonoke’s interim coach the remainder of the season. Lonoke travels to Baptist Prep in Little Rock on Friday night. — Jeremy Muck

GOLF UALR wins Memphis Intercolle­giate UALR’s men’s team won the Memphis Intercolle­giate on Tuesday at Colonial Country Club in Memphis.

The Trojans finished the 54- hole tournament with an 895 ( 304303- 288), finishing two strokes ahead of Lipscomb. Central Arkansas was third with an 898 ( 297- 303- 298), followed by Memphis ( 902) and Southern Miss ( 903). Arkansas State was sixth at 905 ( 306- 300- 299).

The Trojans were led by Logan Pate, who finished tied for seventh place in the individual standings with a 7- over- par 223 ( 77- 76- 70). Brady Edwards finished tied for 10th with a 224 ( 75- 72- 77).

Central Arkansas was led by Alvaro Carol Estrems ( 69- 74- 80) and Louis Tomlinson ( 75- 75- 73), who both finished tied for seventh at 7- over 223.

Arkansas State was led by Andrew Huseman ( 74- 72- 76), who finished tied for fifth with a 6- over 222. Tanner Napier ( 75- 77- 72) finished with an 8- over 224.

UCA women tied for seventh Central Arkansas’ women’s team is tied for seventh after two rounds of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.

The Bears shot a second- round 295 on Tuesday for a tworound total of 596. Pepperdine leads with a 580. Tennessee is second at 583.

In the individual standings, Central Arkansas’ Cindy Oh is tied for 17th with a 146 ( 75- 71). The final round is set for today.

Team Arkansas set for USGA event Team Arkansas tees off today in the first round of the USGA Men’s State Team tournament at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala.

Representi­ng Arkansas are Beau Glover of North Little Rock, Trey Schaap of Little Rock and Stephen Cox of Jonesboro. Glover and Cox partnered in this year’s U. S. Amateur Four- Ball, while Schaap played in the 2014 State Team tournament at French Lick ( Ind.) Resort.

The three will tee off today between 12: 10 p. m. and 12: 30 p. m. Central in the three- day tournament, which features 54 holes of stroke play with a team’s lowest two scores counting each round. There is a 36- hole cut withe the 21 lowest- scoring teams, plus ties advancing to Friday’s final round.

There are 52 three- player teams in the field representi­ng all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

SOCCER Harding men defeat William Jewell Christian Ramos and Matheus Riberio scored goals to lead the Harding men to a 2- 0 victory over William Jewell on Tuesday at Stevens Field in Searcy.

Michael Wasson made three saves for Harding ( 8- 2- 0). William Jewell falls to 2- 6- 0.

UCA’s Ricks earns Southland honor Central Arkansas’ Kristen Rickes was named the Southland Conference women’s defensive player of the week Tuesday.

Ricks helped the Bears hold McNeese State and Lamar to one goal on three shots in both games. Central Arkansas is now allowing 0.73 goals per game.

VOLLEYBALL Harding duo honored by GAC Harding’s Bethany Sutherland was named women’s co- offensive player of the week and Hannah Wilhelm was named defender of the week by the Great American Conference on Tuesday.

Sutherland scored all four of Harding’s goals in victories against Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene, including three goals against Oklahoma Baptist. Wilhelm helped lead a defense that had two shutouts.

UCA loses to Northweste­rn State Central Arkansas lost 25- 19, 25- 15, 25- 22 to Northweste­rn ( La.) State in Conway on Tuesday night.

The Bears ( 8- 8, 2- 2 Southland Conference) were led by Megan Nash, who had eight kills. Elizabeth Armstrong had 27 assists. Amanda Dimon had nine digs.

Northweste­rn State ( 8- 10, 3- 0) was led by Alexis Warren, who had 11 kills. — Democrat- Gazette Press Services
