Scott Hamilton, the Olympic figure skating gold medalist, is facing treatment for a brain tumor for the third time, he revealed in a recent interview. Hamilton, who had testicular cancer in 1997 and previous brain tumors in 2004 and 2010, has a benign pituitary tumor, he told People.com. “I have a unique hobby of collecting life-threatening illness,” said Hamilton, 58. “It’s six years later, and it decided that it wanted an encore.” Hamilton, who said that he chooses “to celebrate life,” said he had only recently learned of the diagnosis and is still researching possible treatments. “I’ll tell anybody that will listen: If you’re ever facing anything, get as many opinions as you possibly can,” he said. “The more you truly understand what you’re up against, the better decision you’re going to make.”
It seems even Justin Bieber can find screaming by his fans irritating. The pop star walked off the stage during a show in Manchester, England, on Sunday after some fans ignored his request to stop screaming as he was trying to talk to the crowd between songs. Bieber told the crowd that he wanted to be able to say something and the screaming had to stop. When the screaming continued, a frustrated Bieber left the stage. The singer returned several moments later and told the crowd he’d stop talking and just do his musical set because, he said, “Manchester just can’t handle it.”
Fans of comedienne Carol Burnett are getting some more time together with the comedy legend in a TV project that Amy Poehler will executive-produce. Poehler publicist Lewis Kay and ABC have confirmed a pilot deal for a multicamera sitcom. Burnett, 83, has had a six-decade run onstage, in films and especially on television, where her variety series The Carol Burnett Show aired for 11 seasons on CBS, wrapping in 1979. Although she’s stayed busy on TV as both an actress and comedian, her most recent series, NBC’s sketch-comedy Carol Burnett & Company, aired a quarter-century ago. Burnett has won a total of six Emmys. Earlier this year, she was presented with the SAG Life Achievement Award by Poehler and Tina Fey.
