Armed car burglar subdued by couple

-

A man and his wife were able to take down a knife-wielding assailant, who identified himself to authorities as “James Bond,” during a robbery Saturday in Little Rock, police say.

A 47-year-old man told Little Rock police that he went outside to check on his 1999 Chevrolet Suburban at his residence in the 2500 block of South Maple Street after hearing his vehicle alarm go off shortly after 8 a.m.

The man found an intruder inside the SUV, which had its rear driver’s side window broken out and items from inside strewn about nearby, according to a police report. The intruder then pulled out a knife and began to swing it at the man, cutting him on his right wrist, according to the report.

The victim screamed for help and was able to kick the knife out of the intruder’s hand and punch him in the face before his wife rushed outside and hit the intruder with a chair, according to the report.

The impact sent the then-bloodied intruder to the ground, police said.

The intruder, who was found with “a lot of handheld video games and electronics,” was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment, the report noted. Police say he refused to give his real name to investigators.

Authorities have arrested Paul Hannon, 50, no known address, on charges of aggravated robbery, theft of property and obstructing governmental operations.

He remained at the Pulaski County jail without bail as of Monday, records show.
