Events to mark WWI centennial

State exhibits commemorat­e date of U. S.’ entry into war

Observance of the centennial year of the United States’ entry into World War I will include activities and exhibits open to the public during March as sanctioned by the Arkansas World War I Centennial Committee.

At noon Wednesday, the Legacies and Lunch series at the Central Arkansas Library System’s main library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock, will feature Elizabeth Griffin Hill, author of Faithful to Our Tasks: Arkansas’s Women and the Great War.

An Arkansas Women’s History Institute’s event — Inaugural Arkansas Women’s History Month Festival: Rememberin­g 1917 — will feature booths, living history vignettes and presentati­ons showcasing women’s contributi­ons and experience­s during World War I, 10 a. m.- 2 p. m. Saturday at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock.

Several exhibits are ongoing throughout the month:

A USS Arkansas exhibit at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, 120 Riverfront Park Drive, North Little Rock.

“Lonoke County in the Great War,” Museum of American History, 114 S. First St., Cabot.

“First Call: American Posters of WWI,” MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock.

“In Fields Far Way,” about Benton County residents during World War I, Rogers Historical Museum, 322 S. Second St., Rogers.

“On the Fields and in the Trenches: Relics of the First World War,” at the Arkansas State Archives, One Capitol Mall, Little Rock.
