White River Medical Center announces new provider

-

BATESVILLE — Gary L. Bebow, administrator/CEO of White River Medical Center, has welcomed Cherin Pace, speech-language pathologist, to Batesville. Pace is treating patients for Speech-Language Pathology Services at WRMC PROS (Physical Rehab Outpatient Services). She is seeing acute-care patients in the hospital as well.

The speech-language-pathologist role includes evaluation and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders resulting from neurological conditions.

Pace also treats patients with voice disorders resulting from vocal injury or illness, including laryngeal-cancer patients. In addition to treating patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting, Pace screens patients in WRMC’s inpatient rehabilitation and recuperative care units to identify those who would benefit from her services.

Pace received a Master of Science degree in speechlanguage pathology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

“Cherin has a special skill set that will be a great benefit to our patients,” Bebow said. “In addition to her skill, she also has a passion and drive for patient care that makes her a great fit for our organization.”

Pace’s goals are to increase awareness of the role of speech-language pathologists in treating communication disorders; expand the SLP services; and ensure the availability of Lee Silverman Voice Treatments for patients with Parkinson’s disease and electrical stimulation therapy for patients with swallowing and other oral-facial disorders for patients in the White River Health System service area.

“There aren’t enough words to express how delighted, grateful and blessed I am to be selected for this position,” Pace said. “I’ve dreamed of this type of work ever since entering the field of speech-language pathology.”

Pace’s mother and stepfather have been residents of the Batesville area for more than 30 years.

Patients who might benefit from speech-language pathology services should speak to their primary-care provider about being referred for therapy at White River Medical Center PROS. White River Health System offers outpatient physical-, occupational- and speech-therapy services at therapy clinics in Batesville, Cherokee Village and Mountain View.
