SUN BELT ARKANSAS STATE 10, GEORGIA STATE 5
Arkansas State University raced out to a 9-2 advantage after three innings en route to a victory over Georgia State at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro to earn a three-game sweep.
The Red Wolves (18-14, 7-5 Sun Belt) swept a Sun Belt opponent for the first time since sweeping Louisiana-Monroe in Jonesboro last season. Georgia State fell to 11-20 overall and 1-11 in conference.
Grant Hawkins led ASU with two hits, while Garrett Rucker and Jake Bakamus each drove in two runs.
Tyler Mitzel earned the first victory of his ASU career after allowing 5 runs on 6 hits in a career-best 61/3 innings.
UALR 6, TEXAS STATE 5
An eighth-inning comeback gave the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (12-20, 5-7 Sun Belt) its first Sun Belt series victory of 2017 with a victory over Texas State (20-13, 7-5) at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.
Zach Baker went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI for the Trojans.
UALR trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning. The Trojans took a 6-5 lead with Jonathan Davis’ tworun single and Ty Gunter’s run-scoring base hit.
Texas State loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth. But Dylan Slayton got Jared Huber to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the game.
SOUTHLAND CENTRAL ARKANSAS 17, HOUSTON BAPTIST 4 (7)
The University of Central Arkansas Bears (17-16, 7-8 Southland) defeated Houston Baptist (14-15, 6-6) in seven innings at Husky Field in Houston.
Tied at 1-1 after two innings, the Bears outscored the Huskies 16-3 over the next five innings to win their third consecutive SLC series and take their second run-rule Sunday victory in the past three weeks. UCA had 12 hits and took advantage of three Huskies errors.
Brooks Balisterri finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, while Rigo Aguilar, Justin McCarty and William Hancock drove in three runs apiece.
Redshirt freshman Mark Moyer (4-1) won his fourth consecutive outing with a complete-game 7-hitter, striking out 6 and walking 2.
