2017 Spring Job Fair

-

Whether currently unemployed or simply looking for a new career path, job seekers will want to make plans to attend this year’s Spring Job Fair.

The event, which is free to the public, will be from

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Statehouse Convention

Center in downtown Little

Rock. The Spring Job Fair is presented by the Arkansas

Democrat-Gazette and the Central Arkansas Human Resource Association (CAHRA).

More than 45 employers, staffing agencies and educators will be represented at the fair. Job seekers will have the opportunity to apply for positions in all kinds of career fields, ranging from entry-level jobs to professional and management positions.

“This year’s Spring Job Fair will include two informative panel discussions,” said Amanda Copley, marketing and events director for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

“The first, ‘Dress for Success’ Doesn’t Always Mean Suit and Tie,’ will help job seekers dress appropriately for any type of job interview,” she said. “The second, ‘How to Sell Yourself Before, During and After the Interview,’ stresses the importance of researching a prospective employer before an interview, what kind of questions to expect about your past employment, and how and when to follow up after an interview.”

Job seekers may schedule mock job interviews from 10:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. These interviews, conducted by CAHRA professionals, will help job seekers practice their responses — both verbal and nonverbal — to common job-interview questions. In addition, representatives of CAHRA will be available to review job seekers’ resumes and offer tips to help them create a more powerful, professional-looking document.

“For those planning to attend the fair, I recommend preparing for actual job interviews. Dress and groom yourself accordingly. This is your chance to get in front of a large variety of companies and make a great impression,” Copley said. “Be sure to bring copies of your resume — at least 50 — to leave with potential employers.”

Job seekers should keep in mind that the job fair is a fast-paced environment, and although they should be prepared, they may not actually be interviewed during the fair.

The following tips can help job seekers make the most of the opportunities provided by this year’s Spring Job Fair. Check the Jobs Arkansas section of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for open positions and qualifications with participating companies; see the list of prospective employers at left. Dress comfortably but conservatively, preferably in professional or business-casual attire. Avoid heavy makeup and trendy or flashy clothes or jewelry. Keep a positive attitude and a friendly, but not casual, demeanor. Bring copies of your resume to distribute to prospective employers. Be sure to bring pens with blue or black ink to fill out applications, as well as paper to take notes at various booths.
