100 YEARS AGO April 21, 1917

STUTTGART — The feed conservation and preparedness campaign in the northern district of Arkansas county, which closed last night, probably was the most enthusiastic and successful movement ever held in the county. In three nights the total attendance at meetings in rural schools was 2,122. Organizations were perfected in every school district but two; these two will soon be organized. The farmers have entered heartily into the project.

50 YEARS AGO April 21, 1967

Governor Rockefeller’s aides will try to convince Attorney General Joe Purcell to review the recent opinion that Mr. Rockefeller can’t subsidize the salaries of employes on the state payroll. G. Thomas Eisele, the governor’s legal aide, said Thursday that a conference would be arranged as soon as Mr. Rockefeller returns from his vacation. Eisele said he believed that Purcell overlooked a couple of points in making his decision. Purcell said he welcomed a conference but he showed no indication of changing his opinion on the basis of the questions asked by the governor.

25 YEARS AGO April 21, 1992

Little Rock Traffic Judge Bill Watt has drafted a court order telling police to impound vehicles that do not conform to state laws and are driven by teenagers under age 17. Watt said he will explain the measure at tonight’s meeting of the city Board of Directors as a possible solution to juvenile street crime. He said Monday he thinks enforcement of the order would help the city get a handle on juvenile crime.

Administrators at the federal prison complex in Forrest City have barred the Arkansas DemocratGazette from attending quarterly meetings with community members, including one this week, despite a Bureau of Prison policy stating the meetings enhance “public understanding about corrections.” Although Bureau of Prison administrators in Forrest City and Washington, D. C., declined to comment this week, the prison’s executive assistant, Sterling Dawson, e- mailed a reporter last week to say the 19- member Community Relations Board “cannot accommodate any additional members at this time.” The Democrat- Gazette didn’t request to be a member of the board, but to attend its meetings and report on its activities. That request was submitted in late March.
