Conway business keeps customers on their feet
Running is a popular pastime for many, and one shop works to keep pace with the latest gear and accessories.
The Sporty Lady was opened by Linda Starr in 1999. As a female runner, she had trouble finding suitable athletic attire, so she decided to open a store to change that.
Now known as The Sporty Runner, the family-owned business is a staple for both male and female athletes in Conway.
“We believe in providing excellent customer service combined with topnotch products not found in other stores,” she said.
Runners, swimmers, triathletes, walkers and fitness enthusiasts can get the gear they need to get moving at the full-service running store, which offers a wide range of shoes, clothing and accessories.
The shop recently added new clothing lines from Tasc Performance and Dona Jo that are available in several colorful prints that are sure to please athletic fashionistas.
Customers will find a comprehensive selection of running and walking shoes, including Brooks, Mizuno, Saucony, ASICS, Under Armour, New Balance and Newton. The shop also offers cross-country and track spikes, as well as racing flats.
Water-ready customers can stock up on Speedo, TYR and Dolfin swimwear all year long, as well as triathlon gear from DeSoto and 2XU. The store also offers an extensive line of competition swimwear and accessories for all ages, from youth to high school and Masters Swimmers.
All kinds of athletes visit the shop to pick up sporty accessories, such as GPS watches, goggles, energy-replacement products and more.
Because the store is staffed by runners and sponsors local races and triathlons, staff members can provide knowledgeable service to their customers, Starr said.
“By providing free gait analysis, we can determine each customer’s running and walking mechanics to recommend the appropriate shoe to fit their foot,” she added.
She and her son, Don, frequently visit health-related seminars to speak about appropriate running attire. Linda takes part in the Woman Can Run/Walk clinics and race, a program in its 20th year with clinics in 45 cities. Don participates in races and triathlons throughout the year, including the Little Rock Marathon.
