Local business maintains community connection

Imboden Carpet and Flooring has deep roots in the Conway community. In fact, owner Robert Imboden said, the business is the city’s oldest standalone store.

“Being Conway’s oldest standalone store is not an accident,” Imboden said. “It is the loyalty between the customers and the service details we provide that is truly unique in today’s big-box-store mentality.”

Imboden Carpet and Flooring is a family-owned and -operated business with the third generation of the family heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the business and helping to create a tradition of providing a pleasant shopping experience.

Even the family’s name is directly related to the business. With the family originating from the Swiss Alps, Imboden literally translates to “from the ground or floor,” Imboden said.

“My father, Adolph Imboden, founded Imboden Carpet in 1954,” Robert said. “In 1957, I began working full time and eventually took over the day-today demands of the business. Since the 1990s, my Children, Craig and Christie, have worked in the business and continue to do so.”

The business’s mission has remained the same over the years: to provide Conway and central Arkansas with a flooring store with a staff who has years of knowledge to offer its customers.

“Unlike many box stores whose manager and sales team recently had been promoted, our team has been doing one thing for a very long time, and with that time comes knowledge from experience,” he said. “Our installers have been with us for over 15 years and are not only qualified to do what they do, but also warrant all of their work.”

Remaining locally owned is important to the Imbodens because that ensures that money spent in their store stays in the community.

“Our business is still operated as it was in the ’50s and ’60s, when quality, honesty and integrity still meant something,” Imboden said.
