FAULKNER COUNTY COIN CLUB

Hobbyists gather for insight and discussion

-

For three years, members of the Faulkner County Coin Club have been coming together to share and enjoy each collector’s knowledge and passion for numismatics, also known as coin collecting. Will Nipper, a member of the Faulkner County Coin Club, said the organization’s purpose is to continue to learn and enjoy a shared hobby.

“The FCCC is a friendly, open and informal place to share fellowship and exchange information about a hobby that many people share,” he said. “We are organized but have no rules, no dues and no officers. It’s amazing how well it works when people just meet to talk about an interest they share.”

The club has a wide range of members with varying experience and purpose for the hobby. For example, Nipper said, there are beginning collectors, advanced collectors and lifelong collectors, some participating in the hobby for the satisfaction of completing a set, looking for rare memorabilia or discovering an error on currency. While some may see the hobby as an investment, others may view it as nostalgia, but the interest is the same.

The club meets monthly, and members share a meal together. After the meal, they have drawings for door prizes that are provided by Ye Olde Coin Shop. A round of show-and-tell follows, as well as reports from recent coin shows and auctions, and news about upcoming events, all of which are open the discussion.

Some members even bring items in at times for identif ication. The club hosts educational programs on various topics, including counterfeit detection. For more information on the Faulkner County Coin Club, call 501-514- 0785 or visit www.facebook. com/FaulknerCountyCoinClub.
