Maumelle Charter School Academic Signing Day MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Maumelle Charter School Academic Signing Day at 10 a.m. at the Jess Odom Community Center. The purpose of the event is to give attention to college-bound high school seniors who have received private, military or school scholarships. Seven Maumelle Charter School seniors will be recognized.

Springfest HEBER SPRINGS — The 30th annual Springfest will take place in Spring Park and other locations, starting at noon Friday and continuing all day Saturday. The event includes an arts and crafts show, festival-food and children’s activities. Live entertainment will be featured both days at the Bandshell in Spring Park, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday with magician Cedric Morely. On Saturday, the Volkswagen Car Show will be in Spring Park, and a classic car show will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Heber Springs Municipal Airport. Backyard Gourmet CONWAY — The Faulkner County Library, La Lucha Space and The Faulkner County Urban Farm Project invite all to Backyard Gourmet, a fiesta celebrating the garden, from 2-5 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share, and food from the garden, chips, salsa and tamales will be provided. There will be live music, children’s activities, contra dancing, garden tours, a plant sale, a piñata and more. All library events are free and open to the public. McNew Cemetery Meeting GREENBRIER — The McNew Cemetery, 7 miles northeast of Greenbrier, will have its annual meeting and cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon. Those who have relatives or friends buried in the cemetery or otherwise have an interest in it are invited to attend. The cemetery’s board of directors will present several business items to the members. If rain prevents cemetery cleanup, members will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Centerville United Methodist Church for a business session. Mount Vernon Cemetery Cleanup MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Community Cemetery will have its annual spring
cleanup and decoration day from 8-11 a.m. A potluck will be served at 11 at the Mount Vernon Community Center. Anyone with a loved one buried in the cemetery is encouraged to participate. In case of rain, the decoration and cleanup will be May 6. Permaculture Basics Workshop CENTERVILLE — The Centerville Community Group will host a Permaculture Basics Workshop at 9 a.m. at H&W’s Dime and Dollar, 659 Arkansas 225 E., about 8.5 miles east of Greenbrier. Stefan Johnson of Conway, certified permaculture design consultant, will speak on how to apply some basic permaculture techniques to address common problems landowners might encounter. The workshop is free, but donations will be accepted. Preregistration is suggested. The workshop will be held outside, so in case of stormy weather, the event will be rescheduled. Conway Men’s Chorus’ Spring Sing 2017 CONWAY — The Conway Men’s Chorus, under the direction of Sam Huskey, will present its 19th annual Spring Sing pops concert at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas. The assistant director is Jordan Bennett, and the piano accompanist is Paul Bradley. Opening for the group will be the Voices of Central Arkansas from the University of Central Arkansas, directed by Sheri Cook-Cunningham and Carrie Martens. Learn to Swim Program RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will conduct swim lessons with certified Red Cross instructors this summer at M.J. Hickey Pool. The Learn to Swim program will begin June 5. The number of sessions and classes will be determined by the number of participants. Each session will be eight lessons during a two-week period. Morning and evening classes will be available. Registration for the lessons will begin Monday 1 at the Hughes Community Center, 1000 E. Parkway, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hickey Pool Passes and Reservations RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department will sell individual pool passes for the M.J. Hickey Pool for $75 each, beginning Monday. Reservations for private pool parties will also be taken, beginning Tuesday. Available times are 9-11 a.m. Saturday; 8-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 7-10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pool rental costs $50 per hour, and lifeguards are $12.50 per hour per guard: two guards for 1-50 guests; three for 50-200 guests; and four for over 200 guests.
