PITTSBURG, Fla. — Shirley Anne Garnett born on Oct. 30, 1937 to Douglas and Doris Hardy of Burlington, Vermont passed away April 8, 2017, leaving behind sisters, Mary of Burlington, Vermont and Joyce of Tyler, Texas; son, Steven Garnett, wife Sherry Benton, Ark.; daughter, Dana Garnett, St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchild­ren, Buddy Garnett, spouse Jessica, Sherry Tyler; great-grandchild­ren, Savannah, Dawson, Sophie, and J.D. A 1960’s pioneer of women, Shirley succeeded as one of the first female executives in insurance underwriti­ng. She volunteere­d as a Master Gardener for ASU and trail guide at Pinnacle Park. Shirley’s passion was the study of environmen­tal science and educating others on light and noise pollution.

–––––❖––––– JEFFERSON, Md. — Mrs. Sue Shizuko Moring, 86, of Jefferson died April 21, 2017. She was the wife of Dr. Willis C Moring. She was born Shizuko Maeda, on April 14, 1931 in Osaka, Japan. She was a member of Jefferson Baptist Church in Jefferson, Md., and a missionary helper on several trips to Japan. She was a mother, grandmothe­r, and a great-grandmothe­r.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Moring; daughter Kathy Peterson and husband Jack; daughter Angelia Sullivan, and husband Lee Roy; grandchild­ren Eric, Amanda, Crystal, Cassandra, Nickolas, Riley, Lee Roy, Larry; and great-grandchild, Kaylee.

A celebratio­n of life is being held at Jefferson Baptist Church, 4802 Broad Run Road, 21755. Pastor Brian Bowers will officiate.

The funeral will be May 3rd, 11 a.m. at Marlow Baptist Church, Sheridan, Ark. Pastor Robert Standley officiatin­g. Memorial contributi­ons may be given to Jefferson Baptist Church, Jefferson, Md.

ADA, Okla. — Katherine Laverne Whittingto­n Stepp, 88, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 at her home in Ada, Okla.

Katherine was born March 9, 1929 to the late Hamp and Jewell Mitts Whittingto­n in Eudora.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Eugene Stepp; her parents; and three brothers, Bobby Whittingto­n, Roy Whittingto­n, and Desmond Whittingto­n.

She is survived by one son, Rayford Stepp and wife, Vickie of Ada, Okla.; one grandson, Clinton Stepp and wife, Amy of Ada, Okla.; one granddaugh­ter, Rayna Shanaself and husband, Greg of Ada, Okla.; great-granddaugh­ter, Cheyenne Jacob of Ada, Okla.; and two great-grandsons, Mason Stepp and Zack Shanaself both of Ada, Okla.; two sisters, June Hallman of Lake Village and Maxine DeAngelo of Bedford, Texas; two brothers, Troy Whittingto­n and wife, Barbara, of Lake Village and Cecil Whittingto­n and wife, Peggy, of Bauxite, Arkansas; and a host of family and friends.

Katherine was a strong, loving Christian woman and an active member of her church, Union Hill Baptist Church in Ada, Okla. She was always willing to lend a hand to help others.
