SOUTHLAND CENTRAL ARKANSAS 10, ABILENE CHRISTIAN 2

The University of Central Arkansas scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, all the runs they would need, to take down Abilene Christian and finish off a sweep of the Wildcats on Sunday at Bear Stadium in Conway.

For the Bears (27-20, 15-9 Southland), it was their sixth series victory.

Back-to-back doubles in the first inning by third baseman Rigo Aguilar and designated hitter Justin McCarty gave redshirt freshman Mark Moyer (5-2) all the run support he would need.

UCA added single runs in the fourth and sixth, two runs in the sixth and finished it off when three in the seventh.

Moyer pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. Both runs he gave up were earned.

The loss went to Derek Scott (2-1) who went 5 innings, giving up 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. He gave up six runs, five of them earned.

Aguilar hit his second home run in as many games, fishing 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Keaton Presley and Hunter Strong also had two hits for the Bears.

UCA travels to face the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. game against the Golden Lions.

SUN BELT TEXAS ARLINGTON 2, ARKANSAS STATE 0

Texas-Arlington starter Jakob Hernandez (6-0) allowed 3 hits in 7 innings while striking out 9 to help the Mavericks to defeat Arkansas State University for their 10th consecutiv­e Sun Belt victory Sunday at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

With one out in the sixth, ASU (22-24, 10-14 Sun Belt) starter Peyton Culbertson allowed a single and a walk before being replaced by Brandon Stuckensch­neider. Stuckensch­neider retired Will Olson before he was replaced by Tanner Kirby, who gave up a single through the left side to give Texas-Arlington the lead.

In the eighth, Brady Cox led off for the Mavericks (29-18, 19-5) with a double down the left-field line of Tyler Mitzel. He was knocked in two batters later by Olson.

Culbertson (4-6) gave up 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3 in 51/3 innings. Daniel James picked up his 13th save for the Mavericks.

ASU travels to Georgia Southern for a three-game series beginning Friday.

SOUTH ALABAMA 5, UALR 3

South Alabama took advantage of two University of Arkansas at Little Rock errors, allowing the Jaguars (30-18, 17-7 Sun Belt) to captured a series-clinching victory over the Trojans (17-30, 8-16) on Sunday at Stanky Field in Mobile, Ala.

UALR picked up a run in the first on an RBI groundout, but South Alabama came back in the bottom of the inning to score three runs on just three hits.

The Trojans added a run in the third when Hunter Owens singled to left with two outs, then stole second base. Riley Pittman worked the count to 3-2 before hitting a single to right field scored Owens.

South Alabama got that run back in the fourth, but UALR took advantage of two-out doubles by Cameron Knight and Zach Baker to narrow the Jaguars’ lead to 4-3.

South Alabama took advantage of an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to set the final score.

Tyler Carr (4-1) sent 52/3 inning, giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and striking out 4 for the victory. Matt Peacock pitched the last three innings to record his eighth save.

Chandler Fidel (2-7) absorbed the loss, pitching 4 innings, giving up 6 hits 4 runs while walking 5 and striking out 3.
