GOLF Kisner wins in Texas

Kevin Kisner birdied the first three holes on the back nine to take the lead and held on to win Sunday afternoon at Colonial in Fort Worth after defending champion Jordan

Spieth’s Sunday charge. Kisner shot a 4-under 66 to finish at 10-under 270, including a clutch par save on the 18th hole after a wayward tee shot and an approach that was off the back side of the green and well below the hole. He finished a stroke ahead of Spieth, Sean O’Hair and

Jon Rahm. Spieth shot a bogey-free 65, and was standing on a chair to see over the crowd at the 18th green when Kisner putted up the mound to 5 feet of the cup and then made the winning putt. That came right after Rahm’s 10-foot birdie chance skirted just to the left of the hole. Kisner, 33, won his second PGA Tour title in 148 starts. He was a runner-up twice this year, and six times over past three seasons. Spieth, who had missed consecutive cuts at The Players Championship and the AT&T Byron Nelson, was trying to become the only player other than Ben Hogan to win consecutive Colonials. Hogan won five times, including the first two in 1946 and 1947, along with consecutive victories again in 1952 and 1953. O’Hair and Rahm each shot a 66. David Lingmerth (Arkansas Razorbacks) shot a 67 on Sunday and finished 3-under 277 for the tournament. He earned $131,100.

Feng holds off Lee, Park

Shanshan Feng shot a 4-under 68 to hold off Minjee Lee and Sung Hyun Park by a stroke in the LPGA Volvik Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Chinese star took a one-stroke lead into the final round, then kept the competition at bay at Travis Pointe Country Club. Feng led by four strokes with four holes to play, but she made a bogey on No. 16 and Lee birdied 17. Needing a bogey on the 18th to win, Feng easily tapped in for one and finished at a tournament-record 19-under 269. Lee (65) made six birdies on the front nine, and Park (66) had four on the back.

Langer takes senior title

Bernhard Langer played near-flawless golf and took advantage of Vijay Singh’s late mistakes to win the Senior PGA Championship at Trump National in Sterling, Va., for his record ninth senior major. The Senior PGA was the only major that had eluded the German star during his dominant decade-long run on the 50-and-over circuit. He tied Jack Nicklaus’ senior major record last week with a comeback victory in the Regions Tradition in Alabama. Langer, 59, pulled ahead of Singh with a 12foot birdie on the par-4 16th. Singh three-putted 17 to give Langer a two-shot advantage. After Singh birdied 18, Langer tapped in for par and a one-shot victory. He shot a 4-under 68 to finish at 18-under 270. Singh closed with a 70. Langer also won the season-opening event in Hawaii and has 32 career senior victories. John Daly (Dardanelle, Razorbacks) shot a 70 on Sunday and finished 4-under 284, earning $41,650. Glen Day (Little Rock) earned $32,295, finishing the tournament at 3-under 285.

Noren first in England

Alex Noren shot a 10-under 62 on Sunday for a two-stroke victory in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in Virginia Water, England. Seven strokes back entering the round, the Swede made six birdies and holed a 6-foot eagle putt on No. 18 to complete what he described as “probably the best round of my life.” It set the clubhouse target of 11-under 277, and Noren had to wait more than two hours to see if the lead would hold up in the European Tour’s signature event. The 62 established a course record on the revamped West Course, though Thomas Bjorn also shot a 62 in 2014. Francesco Molinari was second after a 68, with Henrik Stenson (68), Hideto Tanihara (68) and Nicolas Colsaerts (65) another shot back. Noren won for the ninth time on the European Tour.

right-handerThe Astros’ Houston Morton CharlieAstros have to MortonDL placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained muscle in the right side of his back. The Astros said there is no timetable for his return from the lat (latissimus dorsi) injury. Morton is 5-3 with a 4.06 ERA in 10 starts this season in his first year in Houston. The move comes a day after ace Dallas Keuchel (Razorbacks) came off the disabled list after missing one start with a pinched nerve in his neck. Houston called up right-handed reliever Jordan Jankowski from Class AAA Fresno to take Morton’s spot on the roster.

Graveman injured

The Oakland Athletics plan to put pitcher Kendall Graveman on the 10-day disabled list today and recall right-hander Daniel Mengden from Class AAA Nashville to make his first major league start of the season in Cleveland. Graveman, 26, was scratched from his scheduled start Friday night at Yankee Stadium, the second time his pitching shoulder has flared up this year. Even though an MRI was clean, A’s Manager Bob Melvin said Sunday this DL stint will probably last longer than the previous one — Graveman was sidelined from April 15-26 with a strained right shoulder. The team’s opening day starter, Graveman is 2-2 with 3.83 ERA in eight starts this year. Mengden, 24, missed much of the first two months this season after surgery on his right foot. He came off the disabled list May 20 and was optioned to Nashville.

LACROSSE Maryland women win title

A 5-5 halftime tie was a 10-5 Maryland lead just 4:26 into the second half, and the Terrapins held on to beat Boston College 16-13 on Sunday in the NCAA women’s lacrosse championship game in Foxborough, Mass. Caroline Steele had six goals and an assist, Taylor Hensh scored three times, and the Terps capped an unbeaten season with their 13th NCAA title. Jen Giles, Megan Whittle and Kali Hartshorn each had two goals and an assist for the Terrapins (23-0). Maryland played in its fifth consecutive final and won its third title in four years.

MOTOR SPORTS Vettel earns Monaco victory

The Formula One title race took a further swing Ferrari’s way after Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix, with Germany’s Sebastian Vettel winning ahead of teammate Kimi Raikkonen of Finland. Vettel (129 points) moved 25 points ahead of Britain’s Lewis Hamilton (104), who finished seventh. Hamilton finished behind his Mercedes teammate, Finland’s Valtteri Bottas, who was fourth. Ferrari did not win a race last year, but the Italian manufacturer has turned the tables on Mercedes. Vettel’s third victory this season was the 45th of his career and Ferrari’s first here since Michael Schumacher in 2001.
