GIRLIE “JO” ABBOTT, 84, of Sherwood, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 28, 2017. She was born December 2, 1932 in Helena, Arkansas to the late Harold Sr. and Lorene Simon. She was an accountant in private tax preparatio­n.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hunter Steven Shearin Sr; second husband, James R. Abbott; parents; brother, Harold Simon Jr. She is survived by daughters, Barbara Akers ( Jim); Stephanie Pollard; sons, Hunter Steven Shearin Jr. ( Cynthea); Rick Abbott ( Sherry); sister Camille Taylor ( Bob); nine grandchild­ren and five great- grandchild­ren.

––––– – –––– STEPHEN THOMAS HORVATH, 60, of Little Rock, passed away May 29, 2017. Stephen was a graduate of Catholic High School and a certified real estate appraiser. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and scuba diving and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

Preceded in death by his father, Edward Alexander Horvath, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Galyon Horvath; brother, Ed Horvath, Jr. and wife, Claudia; nephew, Alex Horvath; niece, Melissa Horvath; and other family and friends.

––––– – –––– LUCILLE HIATT PHILLIPS, 96, of Little Rock passed away on May 29, 2017. She was born on January 18, 1921 in Vesta, Ark., to H. Clyde and Farry Bonner Hiatt and raised in Charleston.

While attending the University of Arkansas in Fayettevil­le, she met and later married Harry H. Phillips of Old Alabam, Ark. During their 59 years of marriage, Lucille was a devoted wife and mother, but also made time for her love of gardening. She was active in various garden clubs and other civic organizati­ons in the many cities in which she lived before returning to Arkansas to live in Little Rock. There she followed and developed her interests in interior design and began a retail career in home decorating and furnishing­s.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her step- mother, Eula Y. Hiatt; and three brothers, Clifton B. Hiatt, Paul Hiatt, and Bill C. Hiatt. She is survived by her sons, H. Hugh Phillips of Cambridge, Mass., and Clyde H. Phillips of Little Rock, Ark.; a granddaugh­ter, Anastasi Phillips of New York, New York; three brothers, Joe S. Hiatt and Don Y. Hiatt of Charleston, Ark., and Clyde L. Hiatt of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; and by her nieces; nephews and their children.

––––– – –––– LOU ELLEN SATTERFIEL­D, 81, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2017. She was born on March 5, 1936. Lou attended First Baptist Church in Van Buren, Ark., for the 17 years she lived there. Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lloyd Ollen Satterfiel­d, and her son, Ricky Allen Satterfiel­d. Lou is survived by her two daughters living in Little Rock, Janet Hundley ( John) and Susan Satterfiel­d ( Carl); three grandchild­ren, Bruce Hundley, Melissa Hundley, and Joshua Taylor.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to all the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent Infirmary and the Arkansas Urology Clinic that cared for Lou so lovingly. Also, to all our family and friends for their constant love and support. Lou and her husband enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. When they retired they went on the road RV’ing for eight years.

––––– – –––– DOMENICK JOSEPH YEZZI JR. of North Little Rock, Ark., was born in Flushing, New York, on July 11, 1948 to Domenick and Virginia Yezzi. Dom passed away on May 27, 2017. Dom graduated from Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York, and earned a degree from Sienna College in Loudonvill­e, New York, and a Master’s Degree from Long Island University in Brookville, New York. Dom spent most of his career in the insurance business, thirty of those years at Insurance Services Office before retiring in July 2007 and moving to Arkansas.

After his retirement, he and Karen traveled all around the United States and all over the world. They made it to all 50 states, many of them multiple times and to all seven continents and 69 countries, many of them multiple times.

Dom was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Karen Yezzi, of North Little Rock, Ark.; his daughters, Carly Yezzi of Stamford, Conn., and Beth Constantin­e ( Jason) of Arlington, Va.; his step- daughter, Susan Regan of Little Rock, Ark.; his grandchild­ren, Lucy and Chase Constantin­e of Arlington, Va. Dom is also survived by his siblings of New York: Joyce ( Jerry) Kochman, Judy ( Bill) Hammond, Joanne ( Tony) Maneri, Ginger ( Jackie) Comitino and Tom Yezzi; as well as his sister- in- law, Peggy ( Robert) Gay, brothers- in- law, Butch ( Paula) Hastings and Mark ( Kelli) Hastings all of Arkansas.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Gautam Gandhi at Baptist Health Neurosurge­ry, Dr. Mark Storey and Dr. Diane Wilder at CARTI and their staffs for their care during his sixmonth battle with glioblasto­ma.

––––– – –––– ENGLAND — Orelan Wade Johnson passed away May 28, 2017, on the hill where he was born, in Tomberlin, Arkansas in Lonoke County on March 26, 1942. His parents were Robert Edward Johnson and Mildred Elkins Johnson. He was a farmer and a member of The First Baptist Church of England, Arkansas.

Orelan was a third generation farmer, farming the land that has been worked by his family for 98 years, and continues to be by his 4th and 5th family generation­s. Orelan was acclaimed and award winning farmer. He was named, along with his family, as the Arkansas Farm Family of the Year for 2008, the 2009 Swisher Sweet Sunbelt Expo Southeaste­rn Farmer of the Year from Arkansas, and the Conservati­on Tillage Cotton Farmer of the Year for 2004. He was featured over the years in several national magazines, including National Conservati­on Tillage Digest. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, recently recognized as a 50 year member of the Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Joe, and one sister, Delores. Orelan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Tena Jordan Johnson, and their two children, Angela Johnson Ward ( Scott), and Wade Johnson ( Brandy) all of Coy. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren, Kirsten Johnson ( Dennis Armijo), Chance Johnson ( Meagan Morgan), Drew Johnson ( Natalie Elmore), Rhett Ward and Rachel Ward. He was loved by a large extended family, as well. Orelan will be missed by the many farmers he has mentored over the years from throughout the community.

––––– – –––– FORREST CITY — Mr. Mike Massey, age 63, of Forrest City, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock. He was surrounded by his loved ones until he went to be with the Lord. Mr. Massey was born June 20, 1953, in Fayettevil­le, and was the son of Walter Blake Massey II and Mabel Taylor Massey. He retired from Federal Express, was a member of the Forrest City Baptist Church and was a member of the Southern Baptist Associatio­n.

Mr. Massey married Susan Oates in 1976, and she survives him along with three daughters, Erin Massey Carr, and husband, Clarence, and grandchild­ren; Jordan, Olivia, Julia Williams, Corinne and Elizabeth Carr, of Benton, Arkansas, Joanna Massey of Forrest City, and Rebecca Massey, and grandchild­ren; Hudson Reyer and Bentley Scalf, of Forrest City, one son, Seth Massey, and wife, Lauren, and grandchild­ren; Taylor and Emma Massey, of Forrest City, one sister, Jane Massey Udouj of Fort Smith, two brothers; Walter Blake Massey of Dunnedin, Florida, and Dennis Massey of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Mark Craig. ––––– – –––– HOT SPRINGS — Thomas F. Harbour, 73, of Hot Springs passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 4, 1943, to the late John and Hedwig Harbour. He graduated from UALR in 1966 with a Bachelor degree in biology, he then graduated from the University of Houston with a Doctorate of Optometry. He served three years in the U. S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran as a Captain and on completion of his duties was awarded the Bronze Star. Dr. Harbour practiced in Alaska for 15 years before moving to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he practiced for 25 years. He retired to Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 2015.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kay Crossett Harbour; one son, John ( Jennifer) Harbour; one daughter, Sutherland Saulnier; one brother, John Michael ( Judy) Harbour; two sisters, Judith ( Lindi) Harbour and Kathrine ( John) Cook; and two grandchild­ren, Christian Harbour and Katie Harbour.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John Penn ( Penny) Scott; grandson, Winston Penn Wardlaw; her parents, Frances and Richard Carver; and her brothers, Bill, Robert and Mike Carver.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Penn Scott ( Zada) and Stephen Allen Scott ( Mary Jo), her daughter, Mary Frances ( Susie) Scott Wardlaw ( David), granddaugh­ter, Sarah Anna- Frances Scott Kathmann ( Paul), grandsons, Scott David Wardlaw, Robert Wilson Wardlaw, John Clay Scott and Michael Collins Scott, great- grandchild­ren, Penn Joseph Kathmann and Lula Mae Kathmann, and her brothers, Rick, David and Steve Carver.

Clayta was born in Windsor, Missouri, on December 27, 1929, and grew up in Mena with her six younger brothers. After graduating from Mena High School Clayta attended Henderson State Teachers College ( Henderson State University) where she met Penny. Clayta and Penny were married in 1950 and moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, where their children were born. In 1956 the family moved to Crossett where Penny joined his brother Earl at Scott’s LP Gas Company which later became Scott’s Gas and Oil, Inc.

Upon retirement Clayta and Penny moved to Hot Springs where they were members of First United Methodist Church. Their years at Henderson and in Hobbs, Crossett and Hot Springs were filled with great friendship­s and memories.

Clayta was an extraordin­ary wife, mother, grandmothe­r and friend. She was a loyal Razorback fan and loved the game of golf. She loved unconditio­nally and lived a life of faith, grace, gratitude and courage.

The family would like to express their gratitude to a God- sent loving group of friends who cared for her: Lynn Bat- Abba, Yvette Jones, Denise Millard, Marty Millard, Logan Paulette, Rose Poag, Cyndi Ramthun, Sara Stone and Sheila Womack. John was, first and foremost, a family man. All of his spare time was spent with his children and grandchild­ren attending their events and just being PawPaw. CRESTWOOD, Ky. — Katie ‘ Kennie Sue’ McFarland, 75, passed peacefully from this earth and into the arms of her heavenly Father on May 24, 2017 at Norton Brownsboro hospital with family by her side. She was born January 27, 1942 in North Little Rock, Arkansas as the third of three children to the late Kenneth and Mary Ellis. She met Edsel Jeter while he was attending the school her parents founded for Horology ( watch specialist) and on Christmas Eve 1959 they married.

She moved from Arkansas to Kentucky in 2002 to be closer to her daughter and grandchild­ren. While living in LaGrange, she attended and was a vibrant addition to the Adult Day program at Tri- County Community Agency in Buckner. In May 2015 she became a resident of Friendship Health and Rehab in Pewee Valley. Katie loved being involved in all of the activities and was Vice President of the Resident Council at the facility. She rarely missed any outings and was always the first one in line for a fun time whether it was playing games, watching movies or attending church services at the facility, she was there. On the weekends, her daughter would pick her up and head out to indulge in her favorite food- a cheeseburg­er, fries and chocolate milk shake while listening and singing along with the 50s rock n roll music the she loved so much. Katie loved people and never met a stranger and was a lover of all animals. She was a loving mother, grandmothe­r, great grandmothe­r and loyal friend to many.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Edsel Jeter, her sister, Betty Welmer and sister- in- law, Dorothy Ellis. She is survived by her children, MarEva McGraw ( Wood) of Crestwood and Howard Jeter of Louisville. Her grandchild­ren, Blake Gordon ( Beca), Dylan Gordon, Cody Wassom and Selena Jeter Wassom. ––––– – –––– TULSA — Kathryn “Katie” Wills Wood, 96, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Monday, May 29, 2017. She was born December 1, 1920 in Almyra, Arkansas, daughter of George Henry and Alta Wray Deacon.

Mrs. Wood was reared and received her early education in Arkansas. She earned her Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She was an elementary school teacher for five years in Arkansas County before moving to Pine Bluff, where she taught for 15 years in the Pine Bluff School District before retiring in 1974.

Mrs. Wood was a member of First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Twentieth Century Club, and Genealogy Society. After moving to Tulsa in 2010, she made many friends at Country Club of Woodland Hills where she was active in her exercise class, bridge club, Bible study, and book club.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, R. C. Wills Jr., whom she married July 20, 1940; second husband, Lewis Wood, whom she married May 27, 1978; her parents; sister, Gladys Wall; brother, Wayne Deacon; grandson, Richard Fox; and nieces, Janis Smith and Phyllis Ann Deacon. Survivors include Georgia Wills, daughter, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kathy Rimmer, daughter and soninlaw, Dan Rimmer of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and Susie Fox, daughter, of Winona, Minnesota; three step- daughters, Linda Hunter of Houston, Texas, Jean Nixon of Star City, Arkansas, and Joan Clowers of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; nephew, Wayne Deacon, Jr. of Chattanoog­a, Tennessee; and numerous grandchild­ren and great- grandchild­ren.
