Members of the Grand Jury say that because bootlegging is a felony the charge should not be reduced after an indictment has been returned.

Authorities have been searching for Patterson since April 9, when he allegedly hijacked a plane he had chartered from Pine Bluff to Little Rock. Corrections officers from the McPherson Unit traveled to the Department of Correction’s headquarters in Pine Bluff recently to petition Director Larry Norris to remedy what they perceive as unfairly low pay at their Newport women’s prison. They argued that despite having some maximum-security inmates, prison administrators unfairly classify the 600-bed prison as a Tier 2 unit along with medium-security units like Calico Rock, Ouachita River and Pine Bluff. That classification amounts to a difference in thousands of dollars in pay each year.
