MARY SUE “NANNY” ANOUSAKES, 75, of North Little Rock passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 30, 2017. She was born Dec. 14, 1941 in Scott, Ark., to Walter and Lina McNair.

–––––❖––––– DANNY BARNES of Sherwood, Ark., was born Jan. 20, 1962 in Little Rock, Ark., the son of the late Billy Charles and Elouise Miller Barnes. He was a 1980 graduate of Sheridan High School. He joined the US Army in Sept. 1979 and retired out Sept. 2001, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, grilling and watching Razorback baseball games.

On Sept. 6, 2016 he married the love of his life, Susan Renee Fulmer Barnes. They met Aug. 29, 2014.

Danny went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock at the age of 55.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparen­ts, Calvin and Zelma Barnes and Othar and Ora Miller.

He is survived by his best friend, caregiver and wife, Susan Renee Fulmer Barnes of Sherwood; daughters, Laura Begley and husband Brian of Benton, Rachel Boardman and husband John of East End, Kathy Ashlin and husband Justin of Alexander; his baby brother, best friend and fighting partner who he called “Shug,” Darrell and wife Stacy Barnes of Sheridan; eight grandchild­ren and one on the way; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a ton of friends.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be Friday, July 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.

Charles was a graduate of Arkansas A&M in Monticello, Ark. He was in the grocery business throughout his life, working for Kelley Brokerage Company most of his career and then Acosta Sales and Marketing until his retirement in 2009. Charles was a loyal member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church of Little Rock and was a proud member of the “Huh?” Sunday school class. Charles found pleasure while working in the yard, piddling in his antique booth, trout fishing, and spending time with friends and family.

Born to Mabel (Clemens) Priddy and Albert E. Priddy Sr., in Charleston, Miss., in 1920, Albert was the oldest of five sons. After graduating high school in Arkansas City, Ark., he worked in heavy constructi­on until the onset of WWII, when he joined the U.S. Navy and served as Chief Petty Officer in the Pacific Theater - Funafuti, Kwajalein, Guadalcana­l, and other islands. Following the end of the war, he married Carr Lemoine Moore in Dumas, Ark., and they were a team for 68 years, traveling the globe with the Department of Defense. They lived in Arkansas, Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina, Germany, Missouri, Korea, and finally retired in Arkansas, where he had many more years of productivi­ty. He and Carlie had their final home in Cabot, Arkansas, where they were active members of First Baptist Church. After Carlie’s death, he moved to Ohio to be near family.

Mr. Priddy was preceded in death by his dearly-loved wife, and his brothers John and Walter. He is survived by son Alan (Janet) Priddy of Mackenbach, Germany; daughter Melissa (Paul) Howard of Chardon, Ohio; grandchild­ren Rachel (Patrick) Collins of Chardon, Joshua (Marci) Howard of Cordova, Tennessee, ENS Nathan Priddy (USN) and 2Lt Anna Priddy (USAF). He was proud of his beautiful great-grandchild­ren: Sean, Emma, and Ava Collins, and Bailey, Joshua Paul, Andrew, and Johanna Howard. They loved their Ladley! He is also survived by two brothers, Raymond and Charles.

Words cannot do justice to this well-lived life. He touched people all over the world, providing practical help and provisions to missionari­es, neighbors, family, and strangers. He worked in the church wherever he lived, and was a founding member of Bethel Baptist Church in Frankfurt, Germany, and Seoul Internatio­nal Baptist Church in Seoul, Korea.

“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousn­ess, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award to me on that day — and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

–––––❖––––– GWENDOLYN MERRILL SCHMIDT, 99, passed away June 29, 2017 peacefully in her Little Rock home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Harold Schmidt.

Gwen was born in Auburn, Ill. Her family moved to Galveston, Texas when she was a young girl. She had two brothers, Robert and Mort, who both served in World War II. Gwen worked as a secretary for Union Carbide during the war. She met her husband, Harold, who had returned to the States from service in the European Theater of War on the steps of the Christian Science Church in Galveston. They married in 1945.

Gwen and Harold moved to Harold’s hometown of St. Louis, Mo. Harold rejoined his family’s business, The A.E. Schmidt Co, which still manufactur­es pocket billiard tables today. They lived 40 years in the same house in South St. Louis in what is known as the “Scrubby Dutch” neighborho­od. Gwen’s sister-in-law, Rosette, from Belgium had been abandoned by her husband, Mort, in 1949. With her two young children, Rosette moved to St. Louis where they stayed with Gwen and Harold until she found her own home. Gwen and Rosette became lifelong friends. Their two families, the Schmidts and Ciampolis (Rosette remarried) have always remained close.

Gwen and Harold had three children- Susan, Bob and Fred. Gwen became a homemaker and wonderful cook. Harold and Gwen loved to play bridge with church friends and canasta and double-solitaire with their children. After their children grew up and moved from St. Louis, the couple moved to Little Rock where son, Bob, managed Jones Brothers Pool Tables. Harold had purchased this business from his friend, Calvin Jones, in the 1950s. Gwen then inherited her mother’s job of crocheting linen snooker table pockets. This was her small cottage industry, These pockets were sold throughout the U.S. She continued with this business into her 90’s.

Gwen was active in the Little Rock Christian Science Church. She and Harold spent much quality time with their grandchild­ren playing card games, dominoes and Mexican Train! She later moved to Andover Place Apartments after her husband passed on. There she continued to make many close friends. She was a loving and kind mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, Susan and her husband Bill Capozella of Cheyenne, Wyo.; son, Bob and wife Malinda Moses Schmidt of Little Rock; son, Fred and his daughter, Chloe of Columbia, Mo.; grandsons, Bill and Tom Peterson of Illinois; granddaugh­ters, Merrill Jane Schmidt of Denver, Colo., and Claire Schmidt of Little Rock; five great-grandchild­ren; niece Mary Jean (Merrill) Coers of Kerrville, Texas; and three nephews, Robert, Ted and Max Ciampoli of St. Louis, Mo.

Our family would like to give a special thanks to Shawnda Washington and her care-givers along with Arkansas Hospice for their loving support during her last months.

–––––❖––––– HAROLD NORMAN SHIRLEY of North Little Rock, Ark., passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017. He was born Dec. 20, 1932 in Remount, Ark., to Dewey R. Shirley and Ila F. Magness Shirley. He married Miss Jo Ann Smith on Nov. 17, 1956 in Enid, Okla. He was a retired Master Sgt. Medic with the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and loved video games.

He is survived by two children Hal Shirley and Gaye Lynn Long (Tom); sister Wilma Matthews, brother Eddie Shirley (Doris); sister Linda Christense­n; three grandchild­ren Sarah Copeland (Cody), Nathan Long, and Nat Long; two great-grandchild­ren Cub Copeland and two hours after Harold’s death, Poppy Copeland was born. REV. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SMARTT “SPARKY” of Marche Community gained his new life in Heaven June 29, 2017 at Little Rock VA hospital. He was proud of his service in the USAF after which he had a long career serving in many varied occupation­s (baker, boat builder, clerk, insurance sales, minister and many others) before retiring from Super Wood. His proudest achievemen­t, besides being a father and grandfathe­r, was being one of the founding members (along with his wife Freda Faulkner, Johnny Tew, Brother Bob Wickliffe and their first small congregati­on) of the Morgan Full Gospel Church. He was born 18 Dec. 1938 (in the log cabin his grandfathe­r built in Cleburne Co.) to Manuel and Mary Ann (Osburn) Smartt. Besides his wife of 48 years and his parents Ben was preceded in death by brothers Samuel and William and sisters Christenia, Mary Alice and Brenda Kay. He is survived by his daughter Lou Ann Sartin, two grandchild­ren Charles (Chip) Sartin Jr. and Jatonne Sartin, and two great-grandchild­ren Charles (Trae) Sartin III and Savanna Sartin. He is also survived by a brother Calvin Smartt and sister Gracie Jayne, many nieces and nephews, his dachshund Blessing and a host of cousins and friends. –––––❖––––– EMILY “ROBIN” SPINDLER SUDDERTH, 91, died Monday evening, June 26, 2017. She was born in Little Rock Aug. 13, 1925, to Emily Burrow Spindler and Frederick J. Spindler. Known to many as ‘Sissy’ she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Patricia Shurgar, and her brother, Jack Spindler. She was predecease­d by her husband of 57 years, Lt. Col. Ralph M. Sudderth, Jr., and her youngest son, Dr. Brian Sudderth. She is survived by her daughter, Kimball Sudderth Ford and her husband, Mabry of Memphis, Tenn., her son, Ralph Sudderth III and his wife, Lorell of Little Rock, daughter-in-law, Lynn Sudderth of Little Rock, grandchild­ren, Lauren Sudderth Satterfiel­d and her husband, Matt of Little Rock, and Jim Sudderth and his wife, Kelley of Denver, Colo., and great-grandson, Henry Manning Satterfiel­d who brought her great joy. Countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends were loved by their Aunt Sissy, or Robin, or Miss Em, or Baba. She was known by many names.

What a life she lived! The Big Depression, World War II, Postwar Germany, 20-plus years as an Air Force wife, six years in Jolly Old England, and then a return to Little Rock and a 20 year career working for Governor Winthrop Rockefelle­r and WinRock Enterprise­s. After her retirement, she enrolled as a freshman in college. In 1995, she celebrated her 70th birthday, her 50th wedding anniversar­y, and graduated from UALR Summa Cum Laude, honored as outstandin­g graduate of the college of arts, humanities, and social sciences. She went on to earn a master’s degree in compositio­n and rhetoric.

Emily was an amazing woman, wife, and mother. She loved her family, friends and faith. For many years she served as clerk of the vestry at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where a memorial service and a celebratio­n of her life will be held on July 26, 2017, at 1 p.m.

–––––❖––––– IMOGENE TURNER passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at Lakewood Health & Rehab in N. Little Rock, Ark. She was 86 and born in Prescott, Ark. She was a resident of Camden, Ark., for many years before moving to N. Little Rock in 2009. Imogene was a devoted and loving mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r who always had a special smile, twinkle in her eye, and a laugh that was contagious. Imogene was a homemaker and also was active in civic and community activities. She served on the Camden City Board of Directors, Camden Junior Auxiliary, Camden Pilot Club, and served as 1975 crusade chairperso­n of the Ouachita County Unit of the American Cancer Society and was a past president of the Camden Boys Club Auxiliary.

She is preceded in death by her parents Golda and Lillard Billingsle­y; husbands Hesterly Huskey and H. L. Arrington; and her son Dennis Huskey; her brothers Gilbert and Thomas Billingsle­y; and her sisters Mary Moore and Vada Billingsle­y.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Ziegenfeld­er (Kenny) of Sherwood, Ark.; grandchild­ren, Jeff Morris (Beth) of Bryant, Brooke McGee, Allyssa Huskey, Ryan Huskey and Shannon Martin; great-grandchild­ren Brayden Morris, Destin Handloser, Samuel King, Turner McGee, Allie McGee and Daniel and David Martin; great-great grandchild­ren Abby Handloser and Annabella Martin; sisters Lois McCain of Prescott, Ark.; Sue Hammans (Bud) of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brother John Billingsle­y (Jean) of Benton, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her children, Lester Webster (Sarah) of Little Rock, Dee Webster of Conway, Evan Webster (Christy Marvel) of Alexander, Ella Mills (Brian Davis) of Greenbrier and Audrey Armstrong (Charlie) of Alexander; grandchild­ren, Chelsea, Zack, Jordan, Andrew, Joey, Jason, Justin, Tiffany, Gage, Paula, Shelby, Dixie, Brittany, Kevin and Brooke; and 10 ten great-grandchild­ren.

2017. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Claude B. Wilson.

Virginia was a member of Lakewood United Methodist

Church of North Little Rock. She attended North Little public schools and University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administra­tion. She was also a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.

She worked for Valco, Inc., a highway bridge contractor in North Little Rock, co-owned by her husband for sixteen years.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Lenore Wilson Merrell and her husband, Arnold R. Merrell of Little Rock; a sister Sarah H. Pruss and her husband, Edward J Pruss of North Little Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 7401 Highway 5, Alexander, Ark., on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 10 a.m.
