ANNE SHEWMAKE BURNSIDE died July 3, 2017, in Little Rock. Born in Monticello, Ark., July 28, 1923, to Dr. Marion Edward and Theresa Finn Shewmake, Anne met O.C. “Googie” Burnside in 1939. Googie joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and was sent to Officer Candidate School in New Mexico. When he received his commission, Anne took the train to Albuquerqu­e, where, on her 19th birthday, they began a 61-year marriage.

Following WWII and law school for Googie, they settled in Lake Village. As an alto who played the piano by ear, Anne was the perfect addition to First Presbyteri­an Church. She loved

entertaini­ng, playing bridge, and sitting on her porch, enjoying the view of Lake Chicot. She raised two children, adored five grandchild­ren who called her Doll, and had a wide circle of friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Anne was predecease­d by sister and brother-in-law, June Shewmake and R.D. McAnally, and brother-in-law, J.H. “Jukie” Burnside. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ann Burnside; daughter and sonin-law, Susan and Vic Fleming; grandchild­ren, Elizabeth Weindruch and her husband Emmett; Edward Fleming and his wife Catherine; Haynes Burnside; Ellis Burnside; and Georgiana Burnside; and great-granddaugh­ters, Anna Clary and Josephine Weindruch; sister-in-law, Sara Burnside; niece, Beth Sentell and her husband Webb; nephew, Bruce Burnside and his wife Lynn; four great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m., at First Presbyteri­an Church, Lake Village, Ark., under the direction of Bishop-King Funeral Home of Lake Village, Ark. The family extends special thanks to Anne’s neighbor and friend, James Parker, and to the Presbyteri­an Village staff. Memorials may be made to First Presbyteri­an Church of Lake Village.

–––––❖––––– LATONIA JOHNSON, 57, of Little Rock, Ark., departed this life July 1, 2017. She is preceded in death by: husband, Jackie Johnson; grandson, Jamal Pits; father, Danny Gordon; mother, Corine Coleman. She leaves to cherish her memory: children: Nakesha Johnson-Fish and Jacklyn Johnson; eight grandchild­ren, two great-grandchild­ren, and host of other relatives and friends. –––––❖––––– FRANCIS J. “FRANK” KELLY, 84, died July 4, 2017, after a brief hospital stay. He was a resident of Little Rock who was born on February 7, 1933, in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was raised by his mother, Margaret Ann, and sister Charlotte. As a 17-year-old recruit, he joined the U.S. Air Force beginning service as a cook but quickly working to become a mechanic on B-52s and Fighter Jets. He travelled throughout the world to sites he was unable to disclose because of government security. He was a dedicated and sincere patriot as a veteran of 20 years military service where he was a skilled discipline­d servant to his country and known for his dedication to efficient and responsibl­e performanc­e of duties in any job to which he was assigned. As a civilian, he continued his spirit of patriotism and working in several jobs at the same time to provide for his children including baking, constructi­on, and supervisor at the Stagecoach Inn, Kodak Company and ALLTEL. He was known for his zest for life, vibrant personalit­y and enduring sense of humor. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r. He was proud of the accomplish­ments of his children and fond of his loyal dog, Roxy. He enjoyed the military reunions. He vacationed in Mexico, Canada, San Antonio and Turkey.

He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Deborah Silagi, Marie Kelly and stepdaught­er, Sharon Vire; his son, Michael Kelly. Frank has nine grandchild­ren, Heather Medina, Angela Alonzo, Jereme Carter, Jamie Carter, Julian Carter, Jarod Carter, Dallas Vire, Nicholas Vire and Rachel Vire and 10 great-grandchild­ren. Frank is predecease­d by his namesake daughter, Frances Ann Kelly, his sister, Charlotte Thanner and his stepson, Mark Raney.

Visitation will be Friday, July 7, from 6-8 p.m. and funeral services on Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m., both at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock. –––––❖––––– ALICE “FAYE” LANIER, a beloved mother, sister, grandmothe­r, and friend, formerly of Senatobia, Miss., passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the age of 71.

Faye lived a beautiful life, centered around her family and bringing others joy. She loved all, and reaped what she sowed. Her community was a major part of her life, serving as an EMT, county clerk, and city clerk for over 25 years. Faye touched many lives and will be missed by all she knew.

Ms. Lanier is survived by her daughter, Shannon Grimsley, her sisters, Mary and Patti Lovett, her brother, James Lovett, and her grandson, Nicholas Grimsley.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Valley Ranch Nursing Home and the nurses at Baptist Hospital, Little Rock, Ark., in ICU South and on the 10th floor.

–––––❖––––– ALAN LEE PLOUDRE of Little Rock, was born August 4, 1946 in Litchfield, Illinois and passed away suddenly on July 4, 2017 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He served faithfully in the United States Marine Corps.
