LOIS ANDERSON, 83, passed away on July 16. She and surviving husband, Tom, served as United Methodist Circuit Riders in charges across northern Arkansas. After retirement, her ministry continued as part of Arkansas Good Sam events, the Fishnet Ministry foodbank and Trinity UMC functions for the past 20 years. ––––– – –––– SARAH JEAN BOSTIC was born February 2, 1991 and returned to her Creator on July 14, 2017. She graduated from Parkview High School and lived most of her life in Little Rock, with a short sojourn to Sioux City, Iowa. She loved her family, her friends, and her bunnies, and in spite of her own personal struggles, she had a heart for helping others.

Sarah is preceded in death by her mother, Verona Bostic, father Philip Bostic, and her grandfathe­r, Art Goodwin. She is survived by her grandmothe­r, Jean Goodwin; her aunts, Julia Goodwin and Kathy Goodwin; her cousin, Rachel Goodwin; and her half- siblings, Nicholas Bostic and Amber Bostic, as well as good friends who loved her, too.

––––– – –––– JOSEPH CARROLL MURPHY III (“The Drummer”) of North Little Rock, passed away July 15, 2017. He was born September 4, 1952 in Van Nuys, Calif., to Joseph C. Murphy Jr. and Virgie Lee Delaney Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultur­e, a proud member of the North Little Rock and Sherwood Rotary Clubs and Good Shepard United Methodist Church. For over 50 years, Mr. Murphy was in the nursery, lawn and shrub health care business. He owned and operated Arkansas Nurseries and Horticare Consultant­s. Mr. Murphy, a Certified Nurseryman, was a long time member of both the Arkansas and American Associatio­n of Nurserymen.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Marion Barrett Lenkerd Murphy, of 31 Years; his son, Joseph C. Murphy IV ( Adrienne); grandson, Elijah Cael McMillan Murphy; step- sons, Frank Lenkerd ( Kerrie) and John Lenkerd ( Cory); step- grandchild­ren, Jessica, Matthew, Ryan, Kimberly and Brooklyn; sister, Linda Murphy Norton ( George); niece, Mary Elizabeth Norton Austin ( Sean); nephew, Andrew Norton ( Barrett); and three great- nephews Tucker, Henry, and Brooks. Gearlene was a retired school bus driver for Pulaski County School District. She had visited all 50 states and attended the President Clinton Library opening. Gearlene was a Razorback fan and an avid card player with family and friends. She attended countless baseball and basketball games of her children and grandchild­ren.

She was preceded in death by her husband C. D. Harlan; her parents; her grandmothe­r, Ada Brown, who raised her after her mother’s death; and twin sister, Floredine. ––––– – –––– FORT SMITH — John Carl Bullington died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Fort Smith at the age of 66. He was born October 11, 1950 in Charleston, Ark., to Milus and Maurene Bullington. He was a graduate of Charleston High School and studied art at the University of Arkansas.

John was a dedicated family man, fun- loving father, adoring grandfathe­r of six and a loyal member of First Presbyteri­an Church Fort Smith where he served as an elder. In addition to his love for art and creating multiple pieces for his wife’s elementary classes, he is most notable for his incredible dance moves, especially at weddings; his passion for movies and cinema; his joke- telling and silly noise making; and his love for people, life, work, and dedication to the Lord. John was on his way to retirement after 33 years of committed service to Sam’s Club.

John is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lenora Bullington of Fort Smith; three children, Jonathan Bullington and wife Whitney of Springdale, Jennifer Davis and husband Chris of Fayettevil­le, Amy Slade and husband Jared of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and six grandchild­ren, Monroe and Stockton Bullington, Emma Niles, Lily Davis, Hunter and Carson Slade. He is also survived by his four older brothers, Bill Bullington and wife Evelyn of Hot Springs, Robert Bullington and wife Jackie of Charleston, Edgar Bullington and wife Karen of Little Rock, and Danny Bullington and wife Jane of Knoxville, Tenn.

––––– – –––– GREENBRIER — Gertrude ( Ellen) Brannin, 11/ 08/ 1916 to 07/ 14/ 2017. She has gone to be with her Lord and Savior.

She was born in Oswego, Kan., to an Irish Catholic family. She retired from the Police Department in Wichita, Kan., before she moved to Greenbrier in 1992. She was loved and cared for by the best nurses anywhere at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab. They were wonderful to her. She will be missed so very much.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rita Leveringto­n of Fayettevil­le, Ark., and Marti Venable Horton of Greenbrier. Will and Rita Leveringto­n have given her five daughters and many grandchild­ren and great- grandchild­ren. Marti Venable Horton has one son, Blain Venable of Mayflower, Ark. May she rest in peace forever with Christ, her Lord.

––––– – –––– JONESBORO — Carl Cone Heringer, a long- time resident of Jonesboro, passed away on July 13, 2017. Born in Jonesboro, on May 30, 1930, Carl was the son of A. M. Heringer and Juanita Cone Heringer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, A. M. Heringer, Jr., and John C. Heringer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Brenda Stuck Heringer; his children, Maria Jones ( Victor), Carl C. Heringer Jr. ( Joyce), and Elmer Heringer ( Carol); his grandchild­ren, Carl C. Heringer, III ( Angelia), Tommy Heringer ( Kelly), Sarah Heringer ( Hunter), Alan Jones ( Amanda), Elizabeth Jones, Nelson Heringer, Anna Heringer, Alex Heringer; and four great- grandchild­ren. He was the picture of patience, understand­ing and service to his family, his customers and his church.

Carl was a graduate of Jonesboro High School. He was a state debate team champion and was active in the band, theater and the student council. He received a BA in English from the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Following college, Carl planned to join the Heringer family business in Jonesboro, Lone Star, Inc. He became engaged to Brenda. Shortly after setting the wedding date, he received his orders to serve in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He became an air traffic controller, stationed in Tacoma, Wash. During his six years of military service he achieved the rank of captain. Returning to Jonesboro in 1956, Carl became the board secretary of Lone Star Inc. and was the owner/ operator of the appliance retail portion of the company for 25 years. In 1981, he retired from Lone Star and acquired a real estate license. From real estate, he moved into the mortgage lending industry where he worked for various companies assisting NE Arkansas families with home loans for 28 years.

Carl was dedicated to his community, active in many civic projects and charities throughout his life. A longtime member of Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, he served on numerous governing boards for the church and taught the 6th grade Sunday school class for over 50 years. He was known for using games with prizes ( usually candy) to teach Methodism to preteens. On holidays he brought treats. When asked about his hobbies, he would say “teaching Sunday school is my hobby.” A hallway of the First United Methodist Church has been named in his honor. He was also an active supporter of the Jonesboro Lions Club, where he was a member for over 60 years and served as president multiple times. He received the Lions Internatio­nal Edward Dalstrom Distinguis­hed Service Award. Carl’s various other civic activities included serving as the Advisory Board Chairman for the Salvation Army, volunteeri­ng with SCAN ( Stop Child Abuse and Neglect), and accepting an appointmen­t by Governor Rockefelle­r as a Justice of the Peace for Craighead County. He received a Certificat­e of Principle from the Jonesboro Council on Human Relations for his work in advancing the cause of social justice in Northeaste­rn Arkansas.

––––– – –––– MALVERN — Edward Carl “Bud” Daven, Jr. died Monday, July 17, 2017 from pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Carl “Buddy” Daven, Sr. and Darlene Daven Lewis; his sister, Glenda Bittle, and his precious daughter, Deborah Darlene “Darla” Daven King.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 ½ years, Peggy Daven; son, Gregory Carl Daven; grandson, Carl Christophe­r King; great- grandchild­ren, Lori Ann and Joseph King; sister, Peggy Deere; brothers, Tim Daven, Jim Daven, and Joe Daven; and numerous nieces and nephews.

After attending a three- year program, Bud was ordained a Deacon in the first class of ordained deacons for the Arkansas Catholic Church, on November 7, 1981. He has served at churches in Hot Springs, Mt. Ida, Arkadelphi­a and his home parish, Malvern. As a Deacon, he has performed numerous, baptisms, marriages and funerals. He also visited the sick and infirmed and counseled parishione­rs.

Bud graduated from Catholic High School in 1960 and went on to receive a B. S. Degree in Biology & Chemistry from UALR. Bud was a Safety Engineer and Plant Manager for Alcoa Aluminum Corporatio­n, a plant manager for Baroid Chemical plant and a Supervisor for the Arkansas Department of Labor. In 1996, he started Safety Services Consulting business and helped companies in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, Arizona and Japan, to comply with the National OSHA regulation­s. He was a member of numerous profession­al organizati­ons, including American Society of Safety Engineers, serving as president of the Arkansas chapter. Bud volunteere­d on many community and state committees. He was appointed by the Attorney General, to the Arkansas Suicide Prevention Committee and traveled the state talking to the youth about suicide prevention. Bud and Peggy started Survivors of Suicide groups across Arkansas as a support group for people who had lost someone to suicide.

Bud and Peggy have lived on a small farm near Malvern for over 45 years, where he planted a yearly garden, tended the land, and raised livestock. He loved camping and deer hunting in Fordyce, as well as, camping and fishing on Lake Ouachita.

A memorial service will be held at 6: 30 p. m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Malvern. Visitation will be held 5- 6 p. m., Thursday, July 20, 2017 with a prayer service to follow at 6 p. m. at Roller- Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark. Funeral will be held at 10: 30 a. m., Friday, July 21, 2017 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, on Baseline Road, in Little Rock. St. Theresa’s is where Bud and Peggy were married; their son, Gregory was baptized; and where their daughter, Darla’s funeral was held.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Campbell; her parents, Sol and Nina Swindle; sister, Jane Whittingto­n; and brother, Dale Swindle Sr. She is survived by sons, Patrick ( Marilyn) and Jeffery ( Stephen Elbel); nephews, Steve ( Sally) Whittingto­n, Joe ( Gladys) Whittingto­n, Dale ( Maryann) Swindle, Tim ( Carole) Swindle, and many grand- nephews and nieces. She had many close friends and companions she considered family.

A long time public educator and librarian, Beverly taught at Mount Ida, Caddo Hills, and Lake Hamilton schools. She served as the librarian for the Montgomery County Library and was an ardent library supporter. Friends and former students remember her fondly.

––––– – –––– LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Gilbert O’Neil Mothershed was born on July 15, 1943 in Scott, Arkansas. He entered his eternal rest on July 3, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by family.

A 1961 graduate of Horace Mann High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, Gilbert was a member of the marching band, and played the clarinet. Following graduation, Gilbert enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, serving his country from 1961 to 1965. Gilbert settled in Southern California soon after and began his career with the telephone company. Gilbert was a long- time employee of AT& T, ultimately retiring after 30 years of service from Lucent Technologi­es in 1998. He continued working for another telecom company for several years before entering his second retirement.

An active member of the Telecom Pioneers volunteer organizati­on, Gilbert served as a president for multiple terms. He also participat­ed in countless volunteer projects and served on the board for The Lone Wolf Colony Health Ranch in Apple Valley, California.

In his active life, Gilbert enjoyed golf, bowling, target shooting, fishing, and traveling, including frequent road- trips to Arkansas and Texas. Gilbert will be remembered for his kind and calm demeanor - especially with children, philanthro­pic spirit, ability to fix anything, and wonderful sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlevia L. and Hosanna C. Moore Mothershed and his son, Anthony O. Mothershed. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Willie Bee Mothershed; son, Bryan Mothershed; daughter, Ernae Mothershed, stepsons, Thomas ( Lynn) and Reggie ( Rita); grandchild­ren, Ross Galloway, Anthony Mothershed II, Kai Mothershed, Omunique Mothershed, Shatya Johnson, Bryan Mothershed and Benjamin Mothershed; great- grandchild­ren Anthony Mothershed III, Kylie Galloway, Khloe Mothershed,
