HOW DOES SEARCY PARKS & RECREATION HELP PEOPLE STAY ACTIVE DURING THE SUMMER?

We help people stay active by offering numerous kids programs throughout the summer, including the kids ZOO2u program and basketball camp, a Disney summer movie week, and arts and science classes.

WHAT IS THE BORED PROGRAM?

Essentially, the BORED program contains all the activities for kids that the Carmichael Center offers all summer long. BORED is also an acronym we use for our programs. BORED stands for being creative, outside to play, recreational fun, enjoy learning and doing something exciting.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PARK IN SEARCY?

My favorite park would have to be a tie between Spring Park and Yancey Park. Spring Park is the most beautiful park in Searcy and [has] the skating rink in the winter months, and Yancey Park because the new basketball court was redone by Walmart and Searcy Parks & Recreation. I think having an outdoor basketball court for kids and adults to use during the summer is great.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE SEARCY’S HIDDEN GEM?

Searcy’s hidden gem has to be the Rialto Theater. When I first arrived in Searcy, I did not know about the Rialto until a year of residency here, but the Rialto is fantastic for families, couples, etc.

WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE A FIRST-TIME VISITOR IN SEARCY?

I would take someone to our downtown square. Many cities don’t have downtown squares anymore, and I think ours is one of a kind. You can go to the Rialto, visit town shops and go to the library and Spring Park. All these places are within walking distance of each other.
