WHAT WAS THE MAIN FACTOR IN YOUR DECISION TO TAKE THE POSITION OF PRINCIPAL OF AHLF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL?
When I heard from a friend that Searcy would be looking for a principal, I was excited. When they offered me the position, I was beyond happy. Another reason is the reputation that Searcy and its school district have. There are opportunities for education positions all over the state, but the opportunities to work in such a good district and at such a great school are rare.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GOALS AS PRINCIPAL?
First, my goal is to learn. Each district and school have their own personalities, and being selected to be Ahlf ’s main instructional leader means I learn and then see how I can make things better. Second, I will be a servant leader to help the faculty be even better. This is probably the one with the most challenge because Ahlf Junior High is listed in the top 5 percent in both growth and achievement in Arkansas schools.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO PURSUE THE EDUCATION FIELD?
I enjoy working with children. I know it sounds cliche, but watching a young person grow and develop mentally is rewarding. Seeing the light come on in a student’s face when I’m teaching a difficult concept or when a student understands literature is awesome.
WHAT DO YOU MOST LOOK FORWARD TO ABOUT JOINING THE SEARCY COMMUNITY?
I enjoy the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. I have some very dear friends in my former district and area. I have found that other people make me smarter.
