Batesville ground zero for White River Classic

The White River 4-Mile Classic presented by the White River Roadrunner­s will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Batesville Municipal Building, 500 E. Main St., Batesville.

The course is USA Track and Field certified and functions as the 11th race in the 2017 Arkansas RRCA Grand Prix.

Online registrati­on is available until 7:30 p.m. Friday for $15, $10 for ages 18 and under. Race-day registrati­on is available on-site from 6-7 a.m. Saturday for an extra $5. Packet pickup will be available.

All preregiste­red runners will receive a T-shirt and raceday registrant­s will receive shirts while supplies last.

Racers will be chip-timed. Trophies are up for grabs for the top three male and female runners overall, as well as in the masters, grand masters and seniors categories. Awards will be given three deep by sex and age group (five deep in the most populous age groups).

A $150 cash prize will be awarded to any runner breaking the division course record. The male record was set in 2011 at 19:45.07 by Daniel Kirwa. The female record was set in 2014 by Jordan Hamric at 22:39.58. Timing chips must be returned; failure to do so will cost $30.

After the race at approximat­ely 8:30 a.m., there will be a free kids fun run for children 10 and under.

There will be a Splash and Dash Youth Aquathlon for ages 7 to 16 at 6 p.m. Friday at the Wilson Park Pool and Trail, 675 N. Park Ave., Fayettevil­le.

Online registrati­on is available for $35, which includes a one-day USA Triathlon membership, T-shirt, finishers medal and photo downloads.
