––––– – –––– BARBARA CARTER CLARK of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on July 31, 2017. She was born on June 1, 1932 in LaCrosse, Ark., to Alton and Thersa Gaston Carter.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L. W. “Bill” Clark of 65 years, and her favorite son- in- law, Greg Morse. She is survived by her two sons, Larry ( Rosie) Clark, Terry ( Rachel) Clark and her daughter, Missy Clark Morse. She had seven wonderful grandchild­ren that she adored, Courtney ( Scott) Greene, Kyle ( Morgan) Clark, Terra ( Jamey) Massey, Annacaye Clark, Wells Clark, Clark Morse and Carter Morse; her two great- grandchild­ren, Sophie and Stella Greene; her sister, Marion Carter Cearley; sister- in- law Betty ( Bill) Cook; her special friends, Heidi Strock and Snuffy Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews and great friends.

Barbara was an avid fan of the horse races, she spent many days over at Oaklawn, sitting in the Jockey Club betting on horses and playing cards. She loved to travel with her Crossett friends from Hong Kong to New York or wherever any one said, “let’s go”, her bags were packed. She loved entertaini­ng whether it be at tailgates at the Razorback games, the Crossett Supper Club, to entertaini­ng the President of the United States. Barbara and Bill were early adopters of Razorback Football tailgating where she always had her famous pimento cheese. Barbara and Bill had a great life together with lots of adventures that they can now continue.

––––– – –––– JUNE TURNEY JOHNSON, 92, of North Little Rock, went home to be with the Lord July 30, 2017. She was born April 15, 1925, to Henry Martin and Iris DeBusk Turney in Pearson. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy William Johnson; her parents; brother, Lisle Turney; and sister, Earlene Wawak.

June was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church, where she worked in the day care for over 15 years. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with her family throughout the United States and Europe.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Johnson ( Beverly) of Heber Springs, Kent Johnson of North Little Rock; daughter, Brenda South ( Greg) of Decatur, Ala.; four grandchild­ren: Cara Long ( Justin), Catherine Anne Singleton ( Matt), Jonathan Lee South ( Kay), Justin Gregory South ( Jessica); six great- grandchild­ren; and many friends.

––––– – –––– MURIEL TYLER OGDON of Sherwood, Arkansas, age 87, passed away due to complicati­ons of Alzheimer’s dementia on July 31, 2017. Muriel was born in Quitman, Arkansas on December 25, 1929.

She was preceded by her husband, Thomas William Ogdon; her granddaugh­ter, Laura Ogdon; 10 brothers and sisters; and her parents, Oliver and Ada Rice Tyler of Quitman. Muriel is survived by her sister, Fern Tyler Corbitt of Conway, Arkansas; her children, Janice Ogdon Emerson of Azle, Texas, David Ogdon of Memphis, Tennessee and Brice Ogdon of Jacksonvil­le, Arkansas. Muriel has five grandchild­ren: Curtis Emerson, Emily EmersonYan­g, Richard Ogdon, Tyler Ogdon and Dorothy Ogdon May. She has one great- granddaugh­ter, Rylee Ogdon.

Muriel was retired from AT& T ( Alcatel Lucent). She and her husband, Thomas, enjoyed activities with the German- American Club, the American Country Dance Society, the Pioneers Club and the Pulaski County Republican Party. Muriel and Thomas worshipped at their neighborho­od church, Kellogg Valley Baptist Church in Gravel Ridge.

Muriel’s husband, Thomas, was a WWII Veteran. Her maternal grandfathe­r, John Calvin Rice, was a Civil War Veteran. Muriel was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederac­y Chapter at Heber Springs.

––––– – –––– JOHN LEE SHELBY, 74, of Little Rock, passed away on July, 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Charleston, Arkansas, on May 2, 1943, and grew up in Fort Smith where he graduated from Fort Smith High School. He was a proud graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in government and a Master’s Degree in history. After a long career in higher education, he retired as Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administra­tion at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Mr. Shelby is survived by his wife Cheryl Elaine Moore Shelby; two sons John Andrew ( Julia) and Michael Porter ( Aimee); seven grandchild­ren: Tristan, River, Jakob, Drew Elaine, Porter, John “Jack” and Matthew. He is also survived by his sister Emma Ruth Mays of Fort Smith.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Baptist Health Medical Center and the Little Rock Fire Department Engine 10, with a special thanks to family friend Dr. David Jones for his compassion­ate care.

––––– – –––– DAMASCUS — Morris L. “Mack” Payne of Damascus was born October 18, 1920 to the late James H. and Melvina ( Lee) Payne. He passed away at home at the age of 96 on July 31, 2017. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, he was married on October 5, 1946 to the late Oneta ( Henson) Payne. They were married for 70 years. Early in their marriage, they moved to California and spent several years before returning to Damascus to become dairy farmers. He was a member of Rabbit Ridge Church of Christ for many years. He enjoyed family time, gardening and working on the farm.

He is survived by his son, John ( Rita) of Damascus and daughter, Susan Geary ( Warren) of Conway. His legacy lives on through the lives of five grandchild­ren, Jeff Payne, Wendi Payne, and Lori Payne Davis ( Shane) of Damascus, Stephanie Geary Jackson ( Mark) and David Geary ( Sarah) of Conway. He was the proud great- grandfathe­r of Drew Payne ( Brianna), Josh Payne, Leighton Davis, Marlee Jackson, Hudson and Preslee Geary. The 5th generation, Wyatt Payne, made him a great-great- PawPaw. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Preceded in death by newborn twin sister, Jana; her parents, Jim and Nell Clark; sister, Marnell Mays; and brothers James V. and John W. Clark. Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, father of her children, Glenn J. Phillips, and by her husband of eight years, Bill Goff. Ann is survived by her children, Glenda Birdsong, Danny Phillips, Kimia Yates and Kerri Hahn. Survived by her grandchild­ren, Justin and Kendall Birdsong, Mona Phillips, Andreas, Glenn, Zachary and Rebecca Yates, Sam and Dan Hahn. And her great- grandchild­ren, Kelsay and Kaleb Birdsong, Kyler and Ariel Birdsong, Hayley Swift, Christian and Juliette Yates, Cheyenne, Alexandria and William Yates, Bryson and Brenda Yates, Carter Hahn. Ann is also survived by nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great- nephews, other family members and friends.

Ann was a member of the First Baptist church in Heber Springs since 1951 and was known to all by her smile and for her unconditio­nal love to family and friends. She is truly missed.

Charlie passed away July 31, 2017, in Jordan, Arkansas at the age of 70. He was born March 6, 1947, in Georgia, the son of Irving and Frances Ingram Daniels. He married Gail on May 17, 1990, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and worked in management for Cameron Valves. Charlie lived in Jordon since moving from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, four years ago for his love of fishing. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge # 1714 BPOE. He enjoyed making knives to give to his family and friends. He was loved by everyone, was always happy to help a neighbor in need and willing to pay it forward.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Gail Daniels of Jordan, Ark.; daughter, Melissa ( Brett) Pollock of Little Rock, Ark.; grandson, Nicholas Daniels of Alexander, Ark.; sister, Beth Sheffield of Port Wentworth, Ga.; nephew, Billy Sheffield of Port Wentworth, Ga.; and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

––––– – –––– ROGERS — Sandra Jane Dacus, 70, of Rogers, Ark., passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., to Clay Henry Grizzle and Irma Miller Grizzle. She was a 1965 graduate of NLRHS and in 1969 Sandy was a member of the first graduating class of the University of Central Arkansas nursing program.

She was a dedicated nurse and spent 48 years in the profession caring for others. She worked for 25 years at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, Texas before moving to Rogers and serving at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale and working in the office of Dr. Steven Vold at Vold Vision in Fayettevil­le. She was a former member of Martin UMC in Bedford, Texas and currently Central UMC in Rogers.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 34 years, James R. Dacus; her daughter, Kristina Blaylock, step- daughter, Elizabeth Johnson, both of Rogers; sisters, Pam Burris and husband C. L. of Russell ville, Ark ., Carolyn Cessna and husband George of Sherwood, Ark.; brother Clay Grizzle of McCook, Neb.; two granddaugh­ters that were Sandra’s heart and joy, Talynn and Rayanna Johnson; two grandsons, Joshua and Jack Guy; and many extended family members.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Youngs officiatin­g.
