ARK A DELPHI A—N. R. Franklin, a farmer living near Gum Springs, was shot and dangerously wounded by an unidentified man about 9 o’clock last night, while Mr. Franklin was sitting in his home. He was just getting ready to retire for the night when the would- be assassin fired one shot through an open window. The bullet lodged in Mr. Franklin’s left thigh. Dr. W. T. Rowland was called to attend the wounded man and although pronouncing his condition serious, believes he will recover.

PINE BLUFF — Federal, state, county, and city law enforcement officers Tuesday continued their investigation of the $ 22,000 robbery of the Broadmoor Branch of the National Bank of Commerce here Monday afternoon. A lone gunman took a taxicab to the branch and told a woman teller to place the money in a shopping bag. The man then forced the cab driver at gunpoint to take him to a residential section, where he made his escape, police said. A spokesman for the FBI said here Tuesday there had been no new developments.

FAYETTEVILLE — Four years after a federal court ordered Washington County to provide a more appropriate juvenile detention unit, the county still has not done so. A class- action lawsuit filed Jan. 13, 1988, in federal court at Fayetteville was settled seven months later after the county agreed to find a more appropriate dentition unit for juveniles. To date, plans have been approved for a new 16- bed unit, but the county has acquired less than half the money needed for construction. “I knew it wasn’t going to happen in six months, but I fully anticipated it would be done in four years,” attorney Jenniffer Morris Horan said recently.

Six black students’ largely forgotten attempt to integrate North Little Rock High School in 1957 will get its own tribute next month in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Little Rock Central High’s integration. Plans for the observance of North Little Rock’s role in the 1957 school integration efforts are still being formalized, and a date hasn’t yet been established, said state Sen. Tracy Steele, D- North Little Rock. The most prominent activities during Central High’s anniversary observance will be Sept. 20- 25.
