100 YEARS AGO Aug. 13, 1917

FORT SMITH — Three persons were probably fatally hurt and several others slightly injured when a train struck an automobile at Van Buren today. The injured are: Eugene Feenburg, aged 10, back broken; Mrs. Sam Cohen, hip broken and internally injured; Marvin Bloom, internal injuries; Helen Feenburg, aged eight, legs cut and bruised; Miss Gertrude Cohen, bruised; Ben Feenburg, aged six, leg broken, all of Fort Smith. The machine was being driven by Mrs. Louis Feenburg, who was being instructed by a local chauffeur. It stopped dead on the tracks at the top of a hill as the train was approachin­g. The chauffeur jumped from the car and made an unsuccessf­ul attempt to flag the train to a stop.

50 YEARS AGO Aug. 13, 1967

CAMDEN — Calhoun County Sheriff Doyle B. Duncan said Friday that someone broke into a concrete and earthen storage room in the old Shumaker Naval Ammunition Depot area and took four barrels of explosive powder belonging to Dixie Chemical Corporatio­n. The sheriff said the theft was reported by Dixie officials. The area, where explosives were stored during the days Shumaker was producing rockets, is about five miles east of the Dixie plant.

25 YEARS AGO Aug. 13, 1992

A Eudora police officer charged with two counts of selling crack cocaine to a Springfiel­d, Mo., undercover officer is set for a preliminar­y hearing in Missouri Sept. 24. Officer Robert Danzy, 51, of Eudora (Chicot County) is charged with selling cocaine to Springfiel­d undercover officer Richard Counts. The incidents allegedly occurred on Aug. 9, 1991 and Aug. 13, 1991, said Rick Foster, an acting sergeant with Springfiel­d’s narcotics enforcemen­t team.

A man accused of being involved in a shootout in a southwest Little Rock neighborho­od has been arrested on a charge of first-degree murder. Derrick Dishman, 20, of 15000 Chenal Parkway in Little Rock was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Friday at Little Rock Police Department headquarte­rs at 700 W. Markham St., according to the department’s arrest docket. Dishman had previously been at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital, where he was taken after what police described as a gunfight with 23-yearold Leonard Hall.
