Sign fixed; Godspell not playing

- JENNIFER CHRISTMAN Email: jchristman@arkansas online.com.

Two LED display screens in Little Rock’s Creative Corridor might be high-tech, but a co-worker noticed they contained old information.

An ad for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre said “NOW PLAYING Godspell May 31 - June 25” … last week.

Gretchen Hall, president and CEO of the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, explained, “We have been working through some [software] bugs with uploading and being able to test images on the two signs, but truthfully Godspell was not removed because our staff forgot to set a reminder to do so.”

The spell has been broken: Since our inquiry, one sign was updated (the other was blank as of press time).

MOTOWN LOWDOWN:

Speaking of The Rep, Mark Binns, who has served as musical director for productions there as well as at other central Arkansas venues, recently made a dramatic announcement.

“I have accepted the position of Associate Musical Director/Keyboardist for the National Tour of MOTOWN THE MUSICAL,” he posted on Facebook, adding: “I can’t believe they chose a white boy from Arkansas to help carry on the legacy of this incredibly important piece of African-American history … but I’m so thankful they did! ‘Get ready, ‘cause here I come’… to a city near you.”

Eventually. The tour just stopped in Arkansas in June, so it will be awhile before Binns can promise — to borrow another Motown song — “I’ll Be There.”

CALORIE GALLERY:

TripSavvy.com recently released a list of the world’s 10 best museum cafes. Included at No. 7 was Eleven, the restaurant at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.

The site drooled that dishes like the vegetarian Sweden Creek Mushroom Lasagna and the Strawberry Shortcake Tres Leches “are worth the trip to Bentonville alone.”

Eleven, according to the travel site, has food down to a fine art.

HOOPER TROUPER: It wasn’t all sunshine for extreme hula hooper Katie “Sunshine” Wilson, 31, of Conway, who appeared on Monday’s episode of ABC’s The Gong Show (see video at tinyurl.com/katiesunshine).

Though her fiery hula act was not gonged, celebrity judges Will Arnett, Jennifer Aniston and Jack Black docked her points for a scary stumble (exaggerated Black: “At one point, I thought she was going to die, so I have her a flaming four” out of 10), disqualifying her for the $2,000.17 grand prize.

Still, Wilson told us she’s still jumping through hoops and that her motto remains: “Have hoops, will travel.”

POST WITH THE MOST:

Via Facebook, Brandi Hinkle of Little Rock shared her daughter’s excitement to watch Monday’s celestial event with her third-grade class at eStem Elementary Public Charter School: “Emma just told me she can’t wait to watch the ‘apocalypse.’”
