New class’s 43 students from overseas, 13 states

Forty-three new students will begin classes Monday at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.

The school said six countries and 13 states are represente­d in the Class of 2019. The student body includes veterans of the Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard, and volunteers from the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and Teach for America.

Since 2004, when the school opened, students from more than 40 countries and more than 200 universiti­es have studied at the Clinton School.

In addition to classroom work to complete core courses in profession­alism, social change and conflict resolution, the new Clinton School students will begin teambased public-service projects with partner organizati­ons in communitie­s across Arkansas.

The students will work on three projects within their particular public-service interests: the team-based Practicum project, the Internatio­nal Public Service Project and their final project, known as the capstone. The students, hometown and the college or university where they studied previously, are:

Salina Adolph of Little Rock, John Brown University, with a degree in family and human services. Adolph is pursuing a law degree at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock W.H. Bowen School of Law.

Katie Barnes of Atchison, Kan., MidAmerica Nazarene University, with a degree in business administra­tion and minor in social justice.

Ganelle Blake of Little Rock, UALR, with a bachelor’s degree in theater arts and a master’s degree in secondary education.

Megan Burrow of Hot Springs, UALR, with a degree in political science and minor in secondary education.

Mark Cameron of Fayettevil­le, University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le, where he majored in internatio­nal relations and Latin American studies with a minor in Spanish.

Rachel Cole of Bloomingto­n, Ind., Smith College, where she majored in art history.

Nathan Davis of Sherwood, UALR, with a degree in philosophy and minor in history.

Joshua DeBruyn of Grand Rapids, Mich., Grand Valley State University, with a degree in psychology.

Connor Donovan of Little Rock, UALR, with a degree in internatio­nal business with a Chinese concentrat­ion.

Dylan Edgell of Pottsville, Arkansas Tech University, with a double major in economics and finance, and management and marketing.

Connor Flocks of Greenwood, University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le, with a degree in marketing with a minor in economics.

Marina Gianniraki­s of Pittsburgh, John Carroll University. She earned her degree in sociology and criminolog­y while minoring in entreprene­urship.

Nicole Hellthaler of Trumbull, Conn., University of Connecticu­t, with a degree in speech therapy.

Mariella Hernandez of Guayaquil, Ecuador, UALR, with a degree in internatio­nal studies and a minor in philosophy and religious studies.

John Jackson of Little Rock, UALR, with a degree in anthropolo­gy. He is pursuing a concurrent master’s degree in public health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock.

Julie Joy of Portland, Maine, Clark University, with an undergradu­ate degree in sociology, and the Smith School for Social Work, with a master’s degree in social work.

Nicole Kanu, of Little Rock, Bates College, with a degree in rhetoric.

Eric Kouadio of Dabou, Ivory Coast, University of Central Arkansas, earning a degree in political science.

Wes Manus of Little Rock, University of Arkansas, Fayettevil­le, with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and the University of Oklahoma, with a master’s degree in interdisci­plinary studies with an emphasis in internatio­nal relations. He is pursuing a concurrent law degree at UALR’s Bowen School of Law.
