MIDLAND, Texas — Marilyn Francis Humphries Friday, 87, of Midland, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 4, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Mike Hunter officiatin­g; burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Marilyn was born on February 2, 1930 to Myrtle and Jake Humphries in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She grew up on a farm in Gurdon, Arkansas. She attended Henderson College in Arkadelphi­a and began teaching in 1951 in Bismarck and Okolona, Arkansas. In 1955, after a visit to West Texas to stay with her uncle, L.V. Gills and his wife, Velma, Marilyn began teaching school in Midland, Texas. She taught school in Midland from 1955-1959. She married the love of her life Tom Friday on June 30, 1958 at First Christian Church in Midland. For over 60 years Marilyn volunteere­d for many organizati­ons all over Midland. She helped start the Midland Genealogic­al Society. Marilyn enjoyed her family, researchin­g family history, camping, traveling and handling oil and gas interests for many, many family members in Texas, Arkansas and beyond. Spending time with family and friends at her cabin in Fort Davis, Texas was a special treat for her.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Friday; son, David Friday and wife, Susan; grandchild­ren, Sarah and Lauren Friday all of Midland, Texas.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to First Christian Church of Midland, 1301 W. Louisiana Ave, Midland, Texas 79701; or Hospice Midland, 911 W.
