JOE T. ROBINSON 65, BAPTIST PREP 0

Junior starter Greyson Tackett ran for two scores and passed for two and backup Zaytron Waits, also a junior, ran for a two scores and passed for one in the victory over their Highway 10 neighbor.

“We just focused on trying to get better,” Robinson Coach Todd Eskola said. “We start conference play next week so we wanted to come out healthy, which we did. We wanted to work on our passing game a little early in the game and we were able to play a lot of kids. That was for our kids. We played a lot of kids who don’t get to see the field very much but are talented players. It was good for those kids tonight.

“We were honest with our kids and told them if we go out and take care of our business a lot of the young guys were going to get a chance to play. We were subbing in the first quarter and those kids got a chance to run our offense and our defense. They made some plays and scored and it was great for them because they have not had that opportunity before.”

Mekel Kentle raced 65 yard for a touchdown on Robinson’s first play, and the points came rapidly for the Senators (3-0).

Treveon James caught touchdown passes of 24 and 25 yards from Tackett as Robinson built a 23-0 lead on its first three possessions.

Junior Trent Eskola was 7 for 7 on extra-point attempts and the Senators converted 2 two-point conversions.

“We feel like we are picking up where we left off last year and next week we get to find out for sure (at Fountain Lake),’’ Eskola said. “We will find out a lot more about our football team next week.”
