Keener’s INTs boost Charleston
CHARLESTON 42, OZARK 28
OZARK — Charleston held onto throws better than Ozark.
Quarterback Brayden Caudle threw for four touchdowns and the Tigers intercepted four passes to defeat the Hillbillies (2-1) 42-28 Friday at Hillbilly Stadium.
Mason Keener intercepted the first two passes by Ozark and returned one for a touchdown to give Charleston (3-0) a 14-0 lead.
Ozark closed to within a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 19-yard run by Kayne Satterfield with 8:40 to play.
But that was as close as Ozark got to Charleston, which went ahead 42-28 on a 2-yard run by Mason Wisdom with 5:46 to play.
Wisdom and Sean Michael Flanagan each caught two touchdown passes from Caudle. Wisdom caught touchdown passes of 57 and 6 yards, while Flanagan scored from 30 and 43 yards out.
Both of Keener’s interceptions off Ozark quarterback Dawson Dietz were tipped. Keener’s first interception set up a touchdown catch by Flanagan. Flanagan took a short pass from Caudle and broke tackles down the sideline for a 30-yard score.
On the next series, Keener returned the interception 28 yards to put Charleston ahead 14-0.
The Hillbillies got their running game going and tied the score 14-14 on touchdown runs of 3 and 25 yards by Daniel Woolsey. Ozark appeared to have the momentum but Charleston broke the tie when Caudle scrambled and found Flanagan on a 43-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left before halftime.
HEBER SPRINGS 35, HARDING ACADEMY 14
HEBER SPRINGS — Adam Martin threw two touchdowns and ran in a third for Heber Springs (1-2) as the Panthers handed Harding Academy (2-1) the loss.
After Blaze Nelson started the night for Heber Springs with a 4-yard touchdown rush, Martin opened the second quarter with a 6-yard scoring run and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Rocky Finney to put the Panthers ahead 21-7 at the half.
Martin connected with Jacob Bremmon on a 14-yard touchdown pass in the third and Julio Rubio ran 7 yards in the fourth for Heber Springs’ final touchdown.
Harding Academy’s Peydon Harlow scored on a short run before the half and Davis Morgan connected with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Connor McGaha to end the Wildcats’ scoring.
JUNCTION CITY 48, HAYNESVILLE, LA. 20
JUNCTION CITY — Hishmma Taylor rushed 179 yards and scored three touchdowns for Junction City (3-0). Shuvasceiaye Frazier accounted for four more touchdowns — two rushing and two passing — as he piled up 105 yards on the ground and 112 yards in the air.
MAYFLOWER 58, BIGELOW 6
MAYFLOWER — Keon Simmons caught two touchdown passes and rushed for a third, while brother Deon Simmons added two more touchdowns as Mayflower (3-0) shut down Bigelow (0-3).
Sean Harris passed for two scores and Drake Wilkerson and Tyler Maxwell each scored rushing touchdowns. Jordan Robinson returned an interception for another Eagles touchdown.
CONWAY CHRISTIAN 42, ROSE BUD 0
CONWAY — Conway Christian’s passing combination of quarterback Jacob Wood and receiver Bennett Ellis connected for three touchdowns as Conway Christian (3-0) shut out Rose Bud (2-1).
