WEST MONROE, La. — Opal Virginia Savage Burchfield, age 88, went to meet her heavenly Father on September 20, 2017. She was born May 31, 1929 to Ozey Herbert and Vedia Pearl Beasley Savage in Warren, Arkansas. Opal was a superb seamstress. She enjoyed making clothes for herself and her family. In her younger years she was a scout leader, Sunday School teacher and helped with her son’s school classes. She was known for collecting mugs and at one time had over 500. She was also known for riding her bicycle. She would ride her sons to school on her bicycle each day.

She married the love of her life, Leroy “Tiny” Burchfield on December 13, 1947. Tiny passed away May 13, 2009. Besides her parents and husband she is also preceded in death by her eldest son, James Herbert Burchfield on November 21, 2014.

Opal is survived by her son, Roger Eddis Burchfield and wife, Carol, of Campti, Louisiana; her daughter-in-law, Mary W (Nenda) Burchfield of Warren, Arkansas; her God daughter, Leann Shivers and husband, Colvin, of Crossett, Arkansas; a son by choice, Billy Joe Lovett and wife, Judy, of Millport, Alabama. She is also survived by her extended family, Debbie and Steve Jones of West Monroe, Louisiana, Kent and Nancy Measel of Jersey, Arkansas. Other extended family, Bart Measel and sons Austin and Gavin of Crossett, Arkansas; Jenny and Lee Wheelis and sons Connor and Luke of Eros, Louisiana; Sandy and Daniel Massey and sons Caden, Alex and Jason, daughter Madilynn of West Monroe, Louisiana; Scott and Molly Jones and daughters Landry, Carsyn and son, Fisher of Monroe, Louisiana; and Jared Jones of Monroe, Louisiana.

Her service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, Arkansas. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. before the service. The service will be led by Bro. Ken Burchfield and Bro. Brian Diffee. Burial will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral of Crossett, Arkansas.
