Jerry the Bulldog
CAMPUS AMBASSADOR ARKANSAS TECH UNIVERSITY
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PRIMARY DUTIES AT ARKANSAS TECH UNIVERSITY?
Posing for photos with my admirers is definitely No. 1. I can also be a sympathetic shoulder if a student is having a rough day – lots and lots of hugs. It’s pretty much the best job ever.
HOW DID YOU COME TO HAVE THIS POSITION?
I was born July 17, 2013. Some students and employees at Arkansas Tech University were looking for just the right bulldog to bring back a long-lost tradition, and when they saw a puppy photo of me, they instantly fell in love, naturally. So I moved to Russellville in September 2013 and went through a month of training to get ready for my debut. The Arkansas Tech University Student Government Association met me on Oct. 23, 2013 and cast a unanimous vote establishing the campus-ambassador program. Three days later, I was introduced to the general public as Jerry Charles Young I, the first modern Jerry in the restoration of a Tech tradition from the 1930s.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
The people of Arkansas Tech. It is such a friendly and welcoming environment.
WHAT MAKES ARKANSAS TECH A GREAT PLACE FOR STUDENTS?
The faculty. Our faculty members live the motto that every student counts. You can say the same thing about our staff members. They work to ensure that learning extends beyond the classroom door and that our students have a comfortable, safe and beautiful place to study.
