Affirming he stabbed woman, Fayetteville man gets 25 years

BENTONVILLE — A Fayetteville man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday after he admitted he stabbed a woman several times.

Terrance Keith Billups, 37, pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault of a family or household member. He also was charged as a habitual offender. Billups had been convicted of four prior felonies, said Stuart Cearley, chief deputy prosecutor.

Aleasha Lackey’s children had to come to her aid after Billups stabbed her, Cearley told Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green. Billups was arrested Aug. 14, 2015.

Rogers police respond to a call at 6:57 p.m. Aug. 10, 2015, concerning a woman stabbed inside her residence at 3701 W. Murdock Lane, according to a probable-cause affidavit. Police found a bleeding Lackey on the kitchen floor, according to court documents.

Lackey’s 13-year-old daughter told police Lackey met Billups on a dating website and that he was high on methamphetamine, according to court documents. The girl said Lackey and Billups had argued most of the day, and she saw Billups stab Lackey in the back with a butcher knife, the affidavit states.

The girl said Billups then came after her and her 7-yearold brother, but they were able to dodge him, according to the affidavit. Billups fled the house, according to court documents.

Lackey suffered multiple stab wounds to her back. She also had large cuts on her right thigh and right forearm. Police interviewed Lackey while she was being treated at the Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville intensive care unit, according to court documents. She was able to identify her attacker by writing his name, according to court documents.

Green accepted the plea agreement and Billups’ guilty plea.

Billups was sentenced to 25 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He will have to serve all of the sentence because of his criminal history. Billups must abide by a suspended sentence agreement for 15 years after his release from prison.
