GEORGIANNA PIERCE BILLINGSLE­Y, 99, of Little Rock, joined her beloved husband of 63 years, Ralph Billingsle­y, in heaven on September 25,2017. She was born on September 19, 1918 in St. James, Arkansas to Charles and Amanda Pierce.

Rev. LESTER E. BURTON, beloved husband, father, pastor, grandfathe­r and friend departed this life Tuesday, September 26, 2017. He was born March 17, 1931 in Wynne, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Noah Burton and mother, Mattie Ruth Burton McMurtry; step-dad, B.I. McMurtry; sisters, Francis Davis, Bertha (Bill) Dulin, Josephine (Edsel) Chapman, Vivian Holleman and brother, Orville (Edna) Burton.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Burton; daughter, Donna (Raymond) Young; sons, Larry (Marilyn) Burton and Kevin (Janika) Burton. MARY DORIS COULTER, 94, of Little Rock died September 24, 2017. She was born August 11, 1923 in Little Rock to Mary Emma Cheatham

Coulter and Boone Tatum Coulter. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1966, a Master of Arts in English Literature in 1973 and a PhD in English Literature in 1982 from George Washington University. She went on to teach in the public schools in the District of Columbia. After she retired from a respected teaching career, she returned to Little Rock. Dr. Coulter traveled extensivel­y throughout Europe and Africa during her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jess Ralph Nickols, daughter, Margaret Jane Nickols Webb Jr., and granddaugh­ter, Wendy Katherine Nickols Johnson. She is survived by her grandchild­ren, Michael David Nickols, Matthew Stephen Webb, Sarah Elizabeth Webb Holsapple, Andrew Coulter Webb, and Thomas Edward Webb; daughter-n-law, Dr. Stacy Rudnicki; great-grandchild­ren, Emma Nicole Johnson, Webb Curtis Holsapple, Boone Coulter Webb, Maggie Jane Holsapple, Cooper Wells Johnson and Liam Michael Webb.

BETTY JEAN GREENE, of Little Rock, Arkansas, previously residing in Los Angeles, Calif. passed away September 22,

2017. She is survived by her siblings: Mildred Greene, Helen Greene Pruitt, James Greene

(Katie), Sylvia Greene, all of Little Rock, Ark., along with a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Napoleon and Mary Greene, brothers: Charles Edward and Napoleon Jr., and sister Verda Greene Ewing.

KIM C. KELLER, 58, of Hensley, passed away on Sunday, September 24. She was born on December 7, 1958 to the late Peter and Cecille York Thornton. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Shirley McCarty. Kim loved her family. She was a special friend to many, and enjoyed traveling with her bowling family.

ITHA JEANNETTE POLLARD passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2017 she was 82 years old. Ms. Pollard was born on August 18, 1935 in Benton, Ark to Mr. Emmett I. Pollard and Mrs. Lola Grace Hibbard Pollard. She moved from Saline County to Little Rock as a young child and attended Little Rock Public Schools. She was a 1952 Graduate of Little Rock Senior High. Ms. Pollard attend and graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas in June of 1968 and was awarded a Masters Degree in Business from Louisiana Tech University in 1969. Ms. Pollard enjoyed a long and distinguis­hed career with the University of Arkansas Cooperativ­e Extension Service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Emmett I. Pollard Jr. and wife Patsy, Forrest H. Pollard and wife Frances. She is survived by two nieces, Linda Pollard Korb and husband Freddy, Ann Pollard Zega and husband Steve, two nephews, Robert Pollard and David Pollard as well as four grand nephews and a host of beloved extended family members and friends.

Memorial service and interment will be held Saturday September 30 at 4 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal church in North Little Rock. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Lukes or Camp Mitchell Episcopal Camp and Conference Center.

ALEXANDER — Patricia Kay Wright, 64, of Alexander, passed away September 26, 2017. Born in Augusta, Georgia, on February 14, 1953, she was a “Georgia Peach” and “Valentine Girl” to her husband of 39 years, Carroll Wright.

She is also survived by her pets, Princess and Patches; two brothers, Clark Smith and wife, Glenda, of Benton and Eddie Smith and wife, Marcia, of Little Rock; five nieces, one nephew, seven grand-nephews and one grand-niece, and a host of other family and friends, all of whom Patricia enjoyed and who will miss her. –––––❖––––– AUSTIN — Lucy La Veta “Pete” La Ferney, 77, of Austin passed away September 26th. She was born in Hopewell, Arkansas, to the late Cecil and Lucille (Boyd) Wildman on March 26, 1940.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerald La Ferney; one daughter, Michelle La Ferney (Steve Fisher); one brother, Billy Joe “Jody” (Karen) Wildman; four sisters, Wilma Wildman, Melvis (James) Moorhouse, Martha (Bobby) Hopkins, Joann (Ronnie) Edwards; and one step-granddaugh­ter, Hannah Fisher.

La Veta “Pete” attended Country Chapel Church. She was a hard working country girl who loved bluegrass music, dancing, crafts, and gardening. She was a meticulous housekeepe­r and the heart of the home. She loved the Lord, her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Wildman and Melvin “Bud” Wildman.

–––––❖––––– BATESVILLE — Kittie Ruth Davis Cowling died September 25, 2017. She was born May 7, 1934, in Batesville, Arkansas, the daughter of Allen and Opal Bradford Davis.

Kittie was a graduate of Batesville High

School and Ouachita Baptist College (now University) and a member of First Baptist Church of Batesville. On June 10, 1956, she married Jesse Dean Cowling, who survives her.

Mrs. Cowling worked for 18 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She also pursued a serious avocation as a keyboard (organ, piano) instrument­alist for Baptist churches from her age 15 until very recently.

In addition to her husband, the deceased is survived by one son, one brother, and a grandchild.

The essence of the life of Kittie Davis Cowling can be expressed by a Latin phrase in the spirit of which she made her lifelong Christian ministry contributi­ons

through music: Soli Deo gloria, “To God alone the glory.”

Private interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery of Batesville. A service of memory and celebratio­n of Kittie’s life shall occur at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017, in the worship center of First Baptist Church in Batesville to be followed by a fellowship.

2017. She was born in Gurdon, Arkansas, on September 21, 1920, to Marcus and Katherine Lowe. Jeanette loved her Bible, sewing, flowers, dancing, music, crocheting and her dog, Minnie Pearl.

She was a remarkable woman who loved volunteeri­ng at the Food Pantry, the Rice Depot and Meals on Wheels. Jeanette had four brothers and a husband that served our country in World War II. Her talent of sewing let her travel around the country making uniforms for the soldiers. Jeanette was honored with being the first female elder of the Cumberland Presbyteri­an Church and was a member of the Cumberland Presbyteri­an Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry Martin; daughter, Mary Katherine (Kathy) Griggs; four brothers, Roy, Ralph, Marcus, and Peter John Lowe; and two aunts, Molly Sawyer, Belle Merkel. Jeanette is survived by two granddaugh­ters, Kimberly and Heather Griggs; great grandson, Michael Tyler Dickinson; chosen granddaugh­ter, Jannine; son-in-law, Clarence (Skeeter) Griggs; grandson-inlaw, John Michael Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

BRYANT — Robert Jasper Bryant Jr., age 75, of Bryant; passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017. He was born November 2, 1941 in Watervliet, Michigan to the late Robert Jasper Bryant Sr. and Beulah Minnie Bryant. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Tool & Die Maker.

She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 12, 1934. She was a teacher and counselor at Morrilton Schools in Arkansas, then moved on to Adult Protective Services. Following that, she was an advocate and investigat­or for the Disability Rights Center, where she helped many. She is survived by three sons, George Lester Fullerton, Charles Richard Fullerton and Kyle Lynn Fullerton; one daughter, Leah Ann Roe; and one sister, Kay Childs. –––––❖––––– CONWAY — Danny Thomas was born on October 3, 1951 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the sixth child born to Isaac Thomas Senior and Antee Clark Thomas. Of five boys and five girls, he was the baby boy and given the nickname “Danny Morris Murphy Tippy Lightening Strucking Thomas.” With such a unique family given name he was bound to be an honorable husband, loving father, true brother, successful athlete and businessma­n, entertaini­ng and funny uncle.

Being one of 10 children, Danny had an innate desire to stand out. That he did, following in the footsteps of his older brothers excelling in sports. He was a star athlete who earned a scholarshi­p to play basketball for Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. There he set two scoring records. Among numerous accolades he was named honorable mention All-American in 1973. He was a four-year letterman and graduated in 1974. Danny also lettered in track and was part of the 440 yard relay team which set a school record. He was inducted into Hendrix College’s Hall of Honor in 1995.

In 1973–74 Danny served as assistant basketball coach to Cliff Garrison at Hendrix College. He went on to become the head basketball coach at Marion High and Sylvan Hills High Schools. After 14 years of coaching, Danny pursued a career with State Farm Insurance. He spent the next 27 years with the company and formed many lasting friendship­s. He was well respected in his profession and known to have a diligent work ethic.

While attending college, Danny met and married his treasured wife Sandra Kay Brown. They were blessed with three beautiful children and four precious grandchild­ren.

Danny was a man of true integrity. He always made time for people, offering them encouragem­ent and guidance. He volunteere­d as a coach in youth sports for many years and impacted lives by the example he set. He was genuine, patient and kind hearted. He loved young people and always took an interest in them.

Above all, Danny was a godly man who recognized Christ as his Lord and Savior. He raised his family in the fear of the Lord and was devoted to his faith and to his family. He was a member of Agape Church in Little Rock.

Danny was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Dandra Kay Thomas whom he deeply cherished; as well as his aforementi­oned parents; brothers, Wilbert (Patricia) and Vercy Thomas; sisters, Velma Ann Early and Berna Dean Thomas; two nieces, Andrea Thomas Parker and Jennifer Antee Howard; nephew, Lamont Credit.

His legacy of love will live on in the hearts of his wife Sandra of Conway; two beautiful children, Mario (Micaela) Thomas and Bridget Thomas; his grandchild­ren, Breylin Smith and Jaiden, Jeryn and Jamen Thomas all of Conway, Ark.; his siblings, Johnny (Lillian) Thomas of Miami, Fla.; Isaac (LaTonya) Thomas Jr. of Cedar Hills, Texas; Veter (George) Howard, III of Pine Bluff, Ark.; Amanda (Michael) Pace of Suwanee, Ga.; and Connie (Clifton) McGowan of Maumelle, Ark.; brothers-in-law, Joseph Early Sr. of Hot Springs, Ark.; Dwight Brown, Gary Brown and Ladell (Elese) Brown of Conway; sisters-in-law, Theresa Thomas of Dallas, Texas, Lee (Bernie) Miller of Denver, Colo., Joyce (Elbert) Credit and Connie (Ronnie) Williams of Conway, Ark.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

–––––❖––––– CROSSETT — Orville Hervey (Doogie) Darling of Crossett, Ark. was born June 28,

1928 in Fordyce, Arkansas and died September 23, 2017 in Little Rock, Ark. He was a graduate of Fordyce High School, The University of Arkansas at Monticello, Louisiana State University, and held a Masters Degree in Forestry from Yale University.

He retired in April 1994 as Forest Resource Regional Manager for Georgia Pacific Corporatio­n after 44 years service with Georgia Pacific and a predecesso­r company, Fordyce Lumber Company. He was presented Georgia Pacific’s Distinguis­hed Service Award in 1983 in Atlanta, Georgia and UAM’s Achievemen­t and Merit Award for Alumni in 1993. He served many years on the Arkansas Forestry Associatio­n Executive Committee and served as President in 1988 and 1989. He was appointed to the Arkansas State Forestry Commission in 1994 and served as Chairman in 2002-2003. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for Deltic Timber Corporatio­n of El Dorado, Ark. from 1996-2008.

In 2005, he was inducted into the Arkansas Foresters Hall of Fame. In 2006 after several years of research he wrote a book A History of the Mills, Logging Camps and Early Forestry Operations of Crossett Lumber Company. It was put in the Yale Forestry Library, University of Arkansas at Monticello Library and the Crossett Public Library. In 2008 he wrote Fordyce, Arkansas: A History of the Town, and its Forests, Timber and Mills. He was a retired Major from the Arkansas National Guard and a deacon and longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett. He taught a men’s Sunday School Class for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Miles Darling of Crossett, Ark., and granddaugh­ters, Megan Jantz and her husband Victor, and Bethany Williams. He is preceded in death by his son, Edward Collins (Eddie) Darling, daughter, Linda Darling Williams and his parents, Orville and Aleen Darling.

PINE BLUFF — Larry Rouse, longtime resident of the Pine Bluff area, was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, following a fierce battle with lung cancer.

He leaves behind his wife, Donna Trusty Bird Rouse; his daughter, Mandy Hartwick, and her husband, Jimmy Hartwick, of Harrison, Ark.; his daughter, Jamie Wilson, and her husband, Mike Wilson, of White Hall, Ark.; his son, Charles Larry “Bubba” Rouse II, and his wife, Meagan Rouse, of Olive Branch, Miss.; his son, David Bird, and his wife, Shani Bird, of Boca Raton, Fla.; his daughter, Katie Allen, and her husband, Chris Allen, of Rogers, Ark.; nine grandchild­ren, Jared Wilson, Ally Hartwick, Jase Wilson, Madison Wilson, Ashlyn Rouse, Paige Allen, Avery Allen, Cooper Allen and Riley Rouse; his mother-in-law, Jean Trusty Kunz, and father-in-law, Herb Kunz, of Little Rock, Ark.; his brothers, Ralph Dean Rouse Jr., and his wife, Marilyn Rouse, of Rowlett, Texas, and Paul Rouse, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his sister-in-law, Linda Trusty Holmes, and brother-in-law, Robert Holmes, of Little Rock, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born Charles Larry Rouse on January 31, 1948, to Ralph and Fayleen Rouse, he was a genuine and loving person who touched the lives of all who knew him. After graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1966, Larry attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello on a football scholarshi­p, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. After college, Larry taught junior high school and shared his love of sports through coaching youth football, baseball and basketball teams. He impacted numerous lives through coaching and was ceremoniou­sly honored in 2009 by many of the athletes he had trained.

Larry’s love for sports could only be topped by his love for his family and friends. As an avid fisherman, golfer, and Hogs fan, he often spent time sharing these passions with his children, grandchild­ren and friends.

In 1979 Larry began work with the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 2009 with many co-workers as life-long friends. He married his wife, Donna, in 2011 at Lauderdale By the Sea and relocated to Lighthouse Point, Fla., in 2013. Larry enjoyed retirement with a happy heart, often golfing, fishing, watching Razorback football and travelling. Larry was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend whose sage advice, charming wit and dazzling smile will be deeply missed.

Larry is preceded in death by his grandson, Samuel Dean Rouse; his parents, Ralph Dean Rouse Sr. and Fayleen Miles Rouse; his sister, Linda Rouse Sneed, and brother-in-law, Don Sneed.

A visitation and memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son on Saturday, September 30, 2017. –––––❖––––– LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Clarence Acklin, 62, of Louisville, Ky., (formerly of Conway, Ark.) went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 22, 2017. He was born January 16, 1955, to the late Frances Acklin. He was the tenth child of 16 children.

Clarence was preceded in death by his mother and four brothers, Dewillis Lasker, Wilton Lewis Lasker, William Earl Lasker and Johnny Phillip Lasker.

Clarence served in the United States Air Force for four years. After leaving the service, he earned his degree in Business from UALR. Upon graduating, his career included a store manager at Kmart, real estate agent, and District Manager at The Fresh Market. At the time of death, Clarence was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AckWright, LLC of Conway, Ark.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mrs. Martha “Ann” Acklin, and four sons, Rian Acklin, Aaron Acklin and Shawn Acklin, all of Los Angeles, Calif., and Steven Acklin of Louisville, Ky.; a loving sister-in-law, Ms. Muriel “T” DuChane of Louisville, Ky.; granddaugh­ter Gabrielle Alexis Kottoncamp-Acklin of Michigan; six brothers, James Lasker, Genevle (Judith) Acklin, Robert (Alice) Wright, and Vincent (Regina) Acklin, all of Conway, Ark.; Ceodis Lasker of Muskogee, Okla. and Marcus (Denise) Acklin of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Martha Wilson Williams, Mona Agee Marshall, and Vernell (Lee) Wright, all of Conway, Ark.; Verla (Leodis) Williams of El Dorado, Ark., and Rose (Lester) Bentley of Atlanta, Ga.; and a very special friend (brother), Larry Dean Waters of Conway, Ark.
