DEAR REV. GRAHAM: Does God know every detail about our lives? I can’t imagine this, because the universe is so big and we are so small. Why should He bother worrying about us? Surely He has more important things to think about.

— L.K. DEAR L.K.: God knows about every detail of our lives — even our smallest concern or our most insignificant thought or deed. God is that great. The Bible says, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight” (Hebrews 4:13).

Does this seem impossible? It would be, if God were just as we are, only somewhat greater. We are limited, and we don’t even understand everything that’s going on in our own lives — let alone someone else’s life. But God isn’t like this. We are finite — but God is infinite. Our knowledge is limited — but God’s knowledge is limitless. Our power is weak — but God’s power is boundless. The Psalmist declared, “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit” (Psalm 147:5).

But God’s greatness isn’t only seen in His knowledge or power; it’s seen most of all in His love for us. God is holy and pure, and we don’t deserve anything less than His judgment. But God still loves us — and the proof is that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to become the final sacrifice for our sins. God loves us that much. The Bible says, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us” (1 John 3:16).

Pause to thank God for His greatest gift, and to worship Him and humble yourself before Him. But most of all, thank Him for His love for you — and respond to His love by turning to Christ, and by faith opening your heart and life to Him.
