Will conductor Philip Mann use a baton or a wand? The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is offering a pair of concerts titled “The Magical

King Biscuit Blues Festival this weekend in downtown Helena West Helena include Tab Benoit today, J.J. Grey and Mofro on Friday and Gov’t Mule on Saturday. More than 50 acts perform on five stages, three of them along Cherry Street (admission to the Gospel and Lockwood/Stackhouse stages is free; there’s an admission charge for the Main Stage). Famed director Werner Herzog and honorary chairman actress Kathleen Turner headline the opening weekend of the 26th annual Hot Springs Documentar­y Film Festival, at the Arlington Hotel, 249 Central Ave., Hot Springs. Turner welcomes festivalgo­ers before the 7 p.m. Friday screening of Laddie: The Man Behind the Movies, a daughter’s journey to discover her father, producer Alan Ladd Jr. ($40 tickets include the 6 p.m. pre-show Popcorn & Champagne Toast and the after party; $15 movie only). Herzog will take part in a questionan­d-answer session following the noon Saturday screening at the hotel of his film Grizzly Man, about a bear enthusiast whose passion cost him his life.
