Want a job that’s always in demand and offers the option of having the entire summer off? Clear your schedule for Monday, and make plans to attend the Become an Arkansas Teacher event. This informational networking event, sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Education, will be from 3-7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 201 S. Shackleford Road in Little Rock. The free event is open to anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher, from high school and college students to graduates who have noneducation degrees. During the event, information about the different routes to becoming a licensed teacher will be provided. “Making the decision to become an educator will positively impact your life and the lives of thousands of young people who enter your classroom,” said Dr. Jeremy Owoh, the ADE’s assistant commissioner for educator effectiveness and licensure. “In order for Arkansas to lead the nation in student-focused education, we need individuals who have the desire and disposition to become effective teachers for all students,” he said. “The Arkansas Department of Education is committed to working with school districts, educator-preparation programs and communities to provide multiple pathways for individuals to become educators.” During the Become an Arkansas Teacher event, presentations about alternate licensure pathways will occur at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Representatives from the ADE Educator Licensure, Special Education and Arkansas Professional Pathway to Educator Licensure programs will be available to answer questions and provide helpful information.
