MICHAEL MERLE AUSTEN passed away Tuesday, October 10 2017 at the age of 65. He was born June

1, 1952 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Wesley Austen and Lillian

McGinty Austen, both deceased.

He is survived by his wife, Ann

Perry Austen; sister, Teresa Hoover (Jim) of Manton, Michigan: brother, Wesley Kim Austen (Jean) of Ankeny, Iowa: brother, David Austen of North Little Rock, Arkansas and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He attended the University of Nebraska getting his degree in Electrical Engineerin­g and went to work for Union Pacific. He retired as a Chief Track Inspector in 2007. He was a collector of anything railroad related as well as stamp collecting. As an active rock and mineral collector he served as President of the Central Arkansas Gem, Mineral and Geology Society.

10, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He rallied to the end still attending to the needs of family. He was born April 6, 1941 in Tupelo, Mississipp­i to Clyde

Arold Crowder and Avis Emmaline Crowder. After graduating from high school Jerry served in the Arkansas National Guard. He graduated from State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway in 1965 with a degree in Accounting and Finance. He retired from AGL Corporatio­n in Jacksonvil­le as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He was baptized in 1979 at Sixth and Izard Church of Christ in Little Rock. He was active in teaching Sunday school and living a Christian life. Jerry loved Volkswagen­s and was involved with the Central Arkansas Volks Folks for many years. He has a 1966 red Beetle he named “Chigger”, which he loved to cruise around town on pretty days, but the thing he loved most was being a Dad and Papaw.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Emmie, oldest daughter Gina Crowder-Mabry of Little Rock and sister, Ruth Guida of Texas. Survivors include his loving children, Kera Crowder of Benton, Jeffrey Crowder & Jennifer Crowder of Little Rock, grandchild­ren, Audrey Allbritton, Sawyer Bracy, Brittany Sullivan (Billy), and Megan Tackett. Brett Sullivan is his great-grandson. In addition, he is survived by a brother, James Crowder and numerous nieces and nephews.

William proudly served in the

Navy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. William was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfathe­r, and great-grandfathe­r.

Preceding William in death are his parents; and son, Eddie Ellis. JOHN ARCHIE GRIGGS, devoted father, grandfathe­r, and great-grandfathe­r, passed in peace Tuesday,

October 10, 2017, at the age of 78 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born at home at

Greasy Corner, near Hughes, in Saint Francis

County, Arkansas on March 17, 1939.

John started school in Hughes, Ark. in 1945 and moved to Clarendon, Ark., at mid-term in the ninth grade, in 1954. He graduated from high school in 1957 and started as a freshman the following fall at Memphis State University on a track scholarshi­p. Because of his athletic record as a student, he was inducted into the Arkansas Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2014.

The majority of his adult life was lived in North Little Rock, Ark. where he raised his family. John spent 41 years in the insurance business. He was employed by American Management Corporatio­n for 20 years, retiring in 2004 as Executive Vice President.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Bryant Griggs and Carrie Eulane Beene Griggs Houston; three brothers, Roger Wayne, David Bryant, Jr. and William Bryant Griggs, three sisters, Betty Joe Griggs Snell, Thelma Frances Griggs Lindley, and Eleanor Lee Griggs Raper. He was also preceded in death by his grandparen­ts Vernon Archie and Ada Strange Beene of Hughes and John Augustus and Ida Arnold Griggs, of Memphis. He is survived by one sister, Jimmie Carol Houston, of Tupelo, Mississipp­i; two daughters, Carrie Janice Griggs Archer (Martin) and Stacey Lynn Griggs Matchett (James); four grandchild­ren; and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10 a.m., also at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon, Ark. at 2 p.m.

LOLA M. GUESS-ALLEN, 65, of Little Rock, Ark. passed away on Sunday, October

8, 2017. She was born in the West

Rock Addition of

Little Rock and was the daughter of Phillip and

Lela Mae Guess who predecease­d her.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Guess Jr.; and sister, Phyllis Guess. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Burley E. Allen; and her children, Rosamaund, Adria and Amy. She is survived by her siblings: Helen Guess-Jones of Waukegan, IL, Joseph Guess (Charlene), Thelma Guess-Foster and Russell Guess (Joyce). She is also survived by one uncle: John Aaron Jr. of Indianapol­is, Indiana and her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and a host of special friends.

Lola was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church #3, where she was a Choir member, Missionary Society president, and Sunday School teacher. She was self-employed by La Girls Beauty Lounge as a hairstylis­t for 18 years. She also worked for Olympia Publishing Inc. from 1992 to 2000. She retired from the Department of Workforce Services in October of 2009.

Othar was a World War II veteran with the Army. He served in France, Rhineland and Normandy; where he was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by his niece, Barbara Jackson of North Little Rock; great-niece, Bailey Couch; two great-nephews, Josh and Jeremy Couch; nephew, Lee Jackson of Santa Monica, Calif.; an angel that sat by his side, Leigh Hooten Davis; two grandchild­ren; and a host of family and friends.

LORA FERN JENNINGS, 82, of North Little Rock passed away October 11, 2017.

She was born

June 10, 1935, to the late Jesse Allen & Lena

Carson Stem, near Lavaca, Arkansas where she was raised and baptized as a young teenager into the First

Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of Park Hill Baptist Church where she was renowned for her cooking, particular­ly her pie making skills. No matter the occasion, friends often requested a pie made by Lora. Whether cooking, sewing, quilting, or crocheting, she always enjoyed creating things for others.

Lora is survived by her husband of 60 years, Billy James Jennings; children: Karen Matson (Frank), Anita Hughes (Steve) and James Jennings (Melissa); grandchild­ren: Amy Hughes, Lauren Hughes, Andrea Jennings and Kathryn Jennings; sister, Ann Leete (Jack); and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Lora was preceded in death by her siblings: Katherine Borum (Duron), Jesse A. Stem Jr. (Jean), Dorothy Guinn (J.C.), Betty Piercy (Thomas) and brother-in-law, Dempsey Crabtree.

Pine Bluff where she received a Bachelor’s of

Science Degree in Physical Education and Special Education. She continued to further her education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and received a Master’s Degree in Special Education and in 2005 she received a second Master’s Degree. Almer taught at Benton Service Center, Oak Grove High School-Jacksonvil­le, Ark., Daisy Bates Elementary School-Little Rock, and Arkansas Health Center-Little Rock, Easter Seals, and Hall High School-Little Rock. Almer Johnson-Sharp was plucked from this earthly garden on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Milton and Ruth Maguire. He was reared and educated in Pine

High School where he studied music. He attended Wichita State University where he obtained a music degree. He also attended Oklahoma State University where he obtained an engineerin­g degree. This led to his employment with AP&L, now Entergy where he worked for 28 years up until his retirement.

Some of his loves when he was younger were running 50 and 100 milers, building and racing motorcycle­s, he taught Judo and was a second degree black belt, showing dogs in dog shows and in his later years he loved playing music with the Irish Session. He was crazy about his grandkids and would play his button accordion every chance he got for them.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha (Elmore) Maguire; one daughter, Kelly (Paul) Cantrell; and two grandchild­ren, Mason and Morgan.

–––––❖––––– EMILY MARION VOLLERS passed from this world Sunday night, October 8. As she frequently did, Em left quietly and unexpected­ly after a weekend of laughs, the Disney Store, and birthday cake.

Although Emily had autism and speech was difficult for her, she was an excellent communicat­or. At an early age she was reading above grade level, and did so all of her

27 years. She loved the internet and spent many hours searching the web. She giggled when reminded “no inappropri­ate content viewing”.

As a child and later as a young adult, Emily was a happy soul and though she faced many challenges, her spirit and love of life were never dampened. She loved all babies, whether human, puppies, keets, horses, or anything else small and vulnerable. She spent hours weekly at the zoo walking

and visiting her favorite animals.

Emily is survived by her parents, Anna and John Riggs of Little Rock, and Dr. Mike and Cindy Vollers of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her grandparen­ts, Frances and Ed Warwick of Philadelph­ia, Pa., and Judge Jim and Margrette Vollers of Austin, Texas. She leaves her sister, Madeline Vollers of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Charlie Vollers of Hagerstown, Md., Arthur and Dylan Riggs of Little Rock, Patrick and Irene Riggs of Albuquerqu­e, N.M., and Thomas Riggs of Little Rock. She leaves numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 West 17th St. Little Rock, Ark. 72206 at 1 p.m. on Friday October 13, 2017. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Little Rock Zoological Foundation or The Arkansas Autism Resource and Outreach Center.

She was born in

Santa Rosa, Texas, on August 14,

1931 and moved to NLR several years later. She was preceded in death by a son,

Robert John L. Vandever, mother Evy Mae “Nano” Mateer, father John L. Gilliam, and sisters Nettie Mae Jimmeson and Mary Ellen Hall.

Betty was a devoted mother, mother-in-law and grandmothe­r. Her grandsons Brad and Reid were the delight of her life. Through high school she seldom missed a soccer, baseball or basketball game either of them played in, and “Granny” was known and loved by all the players and families. As a sought after caregiver, she enriched the lives of several families, providing long term care and love for their aging parents, becoming like family to them. The last two years of her life were spent at Lakewood Nursing and Rehab Center with her dear friend and roommate Hazel Lawson, enjoying the many activities, field trips and banquets they provided while receiving excellent care. Our family would like to thank all of them for their support and help during this time of her life.

She is survived by son Sam Weatherfor­d and wife Beth (whom she loved dearly), of Sherwood; grandsons Brad Weatherfor­d and wife Megan, Reid Weatherfor­d and wife Alicia; great-grandchild­ren, Stella Kay, Weston James and Grace Elaine all of North Little Rock.

–––––❖––––– BRYANT — Edward “Gene” Pack, 91, passed away on Monday October 9, 2017. He was born September 1, 1926 to Lee and Minnie Pack. He was married almost 50 years to Betty Lou “Wilder” Pack.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, older brother Robert, and younger brother Raymond. He is survived by his son Mark, brother Tom (Joyce), and sister Evelyn “Erb” Pack. Gene will be missed by all who knew him.

He was a tireless worker, devoted Christian, husband, and father. He served in the Navy in the Pacific in WWII. Gene spent the better part of his retirement doing charity work with Rock Builders, Church In A Day, Nail Benders for Christ, Arkansas Disaster Relief, and Saline County Habitat for Humanity. He served as a deacon at both South Highland Baptist Church in Little Rock and First Southern Baptist Church in Bryant.

The family ask that you not grieve for Gene but rejoice. October 9 was one of the happiest days of his life for on that day he was reunited with his true love Betty Lou and they are together forever.

–––––❖––––– CABOT — On Monday, October 9, 2017, Gregory Wayne Lindsey, proud papa, beloved son, crazy uncle, and “prettiest and smartest” of all his siblings, passed away at the age of 58. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Jim and

Shirley Lindsey; his children, Jonathon (Meghan) and Megan; by his siblings, Sheryl (Richard), Kim (Frank) and Cindy (Ernie); and granddaugh­ters McKinley and Grayson.

He was a faithful Christian and enjoyed sharing his faith with others through his love of music. He enjoyed time at the lake, political debates, and spending time with his family…especially those grand babies.

10, 2017. He was born February 24,

1927 to Thomas

Clifford and Iva Honeycutt White of Clarendon. He met the love of his life, Joyce, on a blind date.

They were married in 1952 and had 64 wonderful years together. A beautiful daughter, Renee Clay (Donald) and grandson, John who along with Joyce survive him. John is such a joy and visits often from Fayettevil­le.

T.C. was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ellen Norman; a brother, James Earl White and a nephew, Johnny Norman. He is also survived by Virginia White, Bennie Norman, and many nephews and nieces.

T.C. was a loving husband, father, and grandfathe­r. He was so supportive of daughter, Renee; attending all her athletic and school and church functions. T.C. was retired from Riviana and the Lonoke County Court System and the Little Rock Port Authority. T.C. was a member of the Carlisle First United Methodist Church; a member of Carlisle Masonic Lodge #587 and a past member of the Carlisle Fire Department and the Carlisle Lions Club.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Carlisle. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Tom enjoyed a long career in law enforcemen­t, beginning at the University of Central Arkansas Department of Public Safety, the Conway Police Department, and the Arkansas Highway Police. He was also a customer accounts manager at Conway Corporatio­n.

He is survived by one child, a son, Nathan Thomas Falls of Little Rock; a sister, Leslee Falls of Whitstable, UK; and his father, Russell Falls of Conway.

He was a proud graduate of the University of Blevins and the Arkansas Police Academy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a military police officer. After completing his military service, he joined the Arkansas State Police force, where he retired as captain after 37 years of service. He was an active member of Unity Baptist Church in Hope. His favorite pastimes were watching his children and grandchild­ren participat­e in various sporting events and traveling with his wife in their motorhome.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glen Odis and Elijah Orr; his sister, Charlene Clark and husband Reid of Hope. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lyllene Burke Orr of Hope; daughter, Vicki Barker and husband Jack of Hope; sons, Rick Orr and wife Stephanie of Hope, Rodney and wife Jennifer Orr of Hope. School in 1952 and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1956 with a degree in Agronomy. After college he returned to Little River County to manage and operate Davis Farms until his death. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, Ark., where he was a member of the Administra­tive Board, Chairman of the Board of Ushers and president of the New Covenant Class. He was past president of the Red River Cattlemen’s Associatio­n and served on the ASCS Committee and Miller County Levee Board. He was appointed by Gov. Dale Bumpers to the Alcohol Beverage and Control Board and served as chairman. Following the 1990 Red River flood he was selected to appear before the Agricultur­e Committee of The House of Representa­tives regarding appropriat­ing recovery funds for the 113,000 acres affected. He was appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe as an original member of the Arkansas Board of Agricultur­e. In 1996 his family was selected as Little River County Farm Family of the year.

Survived by his wife Linda Bauer Davis of Texarkana; three sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Donna Davis of Dallas, Texas, Brad and Jana Davis of Little Rock, Ark., and Donald and Donna Davis of Texarkana; one daughter and sonin-law, Jennifer and Carter Adams of Texarkana; one brother, Joe Robert Davis of Houston, Texas, and sister, Mary Ann Morrison of Ogden, Ark.; four grandchild­ren, Daniel Pellegrin, Madeleine Ritter, Laura Davis and Lilly Davis.
