Police say teen burglarized school

-

A Little Rock teen accused of burglarizing a middle school was arrested this week, police said.

Officers spotted Clifton Shelton, 17, at the intersection of Southboro Drive and Southboro Court, near McClellan High School, and took him into custody shortly after 11 a.m. Monday after he tried to flee, according to an arrest report.

Police said Shelton was a suspect in a burglary at Cloverdale Magnet Middle School, 6300 Hinkson Road, that happened Sept. 27. A backpack valued at $50 was stolen, and Xavier Canady, 21, was arrested while another thief got away, Arkansas Online previously reported. Canady said Shelton had taken the backpack, according to his arrest report.

Shelton confessed to breaking into the school. A glass smoking pipe also was found in his backpack, police said.

Shelton is charged as an adult with commercial burglary, property theft, fleeing and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Pulaski County jail in lieu of $3,500 bond, records show.

Canady remained at the jail Tuesday in lieu of $10,000 bond and faces commercial burglary and property theft charges.
