Wildcats finally top Panthers
EL DORADO —- El Dorado snapped a five-game losing streak against Benton with a 27-20 victory on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
The Wildcats (6-1, 3-1 6A-West) committed four turnovers, but they held the Panthers to 91 rushing yards.
“It wasn’t pretty. There were turnovers and mistakes but our kids played really hard,” El Dorado Coach Scott Reed said. “They played like they cared every play and our defense was really good tonight. We put them in some bad spots offensively and they physically took over, I thought, in the second half. Our defense did. We did not let them run the ball.”
For El Dorado, sophomore Alex Hicks rushed for 124 yards on 22 carries with 1 touchdown. Darius Holly completed 12 of 21 passes for 237 yards with 2 interceptions and 1 touchdown. Shun Levingston had 4 receptions for 96 yards and 1 touchdown and rushed for 23 yards and another score.
Benton quarterback Peyton Hudgins completed 14 of 25 passes for 183 yards. Wide receiver Gavin Wells caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and running back Beau Brewer had two 1-yard scoring runs for the Panthers (5-2, 3-1).
GREENWOOD 38, RUSSELLVILLE 13
RUSSELLVILLE — Greenwood, Class 6A’s top ranked team, had no problems on the road, rolling to a big victory over defending Class 6A state champion Russellville.
The Bulldogs (7-0, 4-0) led 28-7 at halftime as Kenny Wood and Connor Noland had first half rushing touchdowns. Noland had two touchdown passes overall.
Russellville dropped to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the 6A-West, one year after finishing 12-1.
LAKE HAMILTON 34, SILOAM SPRINGS 27
SILOAM SPRINGS — Lake Hamilton lost its starting tailback, sophomore Malik Brewer, to an ankle injury in the first quarter against Siloam Springs, but senior Jacob Nichols picked up the slack.
Nichols ran for 218 yards and scored two touchdowns as the Wolves (3-4, 1-3) picked up an important 6A-West Conference victory and snapped a four-game losing streak, defeating Siloam Springs (2-5, 1-3).
TEXARKANA 35, SHERIDAN 21
TEXARKANA — Jordan Hall ran for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns on 14 carries to lead Texarkana (4-3, 2-2 6A-West) over Sheridan (0-7, 0-4).
Drake Browning started the scoring for Texarkana on an 84-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter as the Razorbacks led 21-7 at halftime.
Quarterback Sean Foreback, who was 9 of 18 for 129 yards, found Hall with a 25yard pass in the third quarter for another Razorbacks touchdown.
