Frequently asked questions about the 2017 Senior Expo

What time does the Senior Expo start? The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Where is the Senior Expo held? The event is at the Statehouse Convention Center, 101 E. Markham St. in Little Rock, in Governor’s Halls 2, 3 and 4. Who should attend? All seniors and baby boomers 55 and older, along with their family members and caregivers, are invited to attend this event. Informatio­n about health care and wellness will be provided, as well as products and services of particular interest to people in this age group. Is there an admission charge? This is a free event. All seminars, health screenings and entertainm­ent — including bingo — are part of the event and are free. Cash or credit cards will be needed for the purchase of merchandis­e and for concession­s. How do I get to the event? Free transporta­tion will be provided for those who want to avoid downtown traffic. Park and Ride will be offered from the state Capitol parking lot in Little Rock to the Statehouse Convention Center from 8:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., with pickups and drop-offs every half hour. Shuttle service and parking are free in the state Capitol lot. The lot is just behind the Capitol off West Seventh Street between Wolfe and Marshall streets. There will also be a Park and Ride option from Hot Springs Village, with only one scheduled pickup at 8 a.m. and drop-off at 3:15 p.m. Departure time for leaving the Statehouse Convention Center will be 2:15 p.m. Those who choose this option can park at the Cranford’s East Gate, 25255 Arkansas 5 in Lonsdale. Space is limited. Parking is also available downtown. Metered parking is free on weekends but will be limited. Parking lots are located throughout the downtown area, including spaces at Second and Commerce streets, and near the Interstate 30 off-ramp. (Some parking lots may charge a fee for special events.) Private parking lots and decks are located throughout the downtown area and do charge a fee. Locations include one at Sherman and Second streets and one at Second and Main streets. Rates are $1.50 per hour or $5 per day. Parking spaces for people with disabiliti­es are located in the downtown area. These spaces, designated with special signs for visibility and convenienc­e, can be found in the following locations: • The 400 block of State Street. • The 100 block of Spring Street. • The 300 block of Main Street. • The 500 block of Main Street. • The 600 block of Main Street. • The 100 block of West Markham Street. • The 100 block of Ottenheime­r Plaza. • The 600 block of President Clinton Avenue. The River Rail Trolley is also an option for those who want to park and ride. There are several routes available, and rates vary. See www. cat.org for more details. What can I expect at the event? Everyone who enters will be given a bag to use throughout the event to carry the informatio­n they receive from the 45 businesses in attendance. The first 500 attendees will receive a compliment­ary newspaper as well. How do I register for giveaways? Prizes will be given away throughout the event. To register for prizes, visit the prize-registrati­on booth near the stage. Attendees do not have to be present to win the hourly prizes but must be present to win the Grand Prize Giveaway. This year’s Grand Prize Giveaway includes a $25 Kroger gift card from OEI: Outreach, Education & Installati­onsCapTel Arkansas captioning phones, a $50 gift card from Cornerston­e Pharmacy, a $100 fall floral arrangemen­t from Home Instead Senior Care, $1,000 from Granite Transforma­tions, a $4,500 Basic Real Estate Plan from ILP Plus law firm, a bed-and-breakfast package from Parkstone Place Retirement Center, a health care power of attorney and a living will from Nash Law Firm and more. The Grand Prize Giveaway is valued at more than $6,000. Along with the Grand Prize Giveaway, the Arkansas Travelers will host bingo, with the grand prize being an Opening Weekend Family Pack that includes the following: • 4 reserved tickets to every game Opening Day Weekend, April 5-8. • 4 hot dogs, 4 drinks and 4 bags of popcorn to every game for the weekend. • 4 Arkansas Travelers hats. • 4 Arkansas Travelers replica jerseys. • 4 baseballs. • 4 pennants. Is the event handicap accessible? The event will be wheelchair friendly, and reserved seating will be available at the stage. See above for handicap-accessible parking options. Will there be concession­s? The Little Rock Marriott will have breakfast, lunch and snack options for sale throughout the day, including granola bars, sausage biscuits, hot dogs and turkey wraps.
