DOROTHY FRANCES ALDRICH, 99, of Little Rock passed away Friday, October

13, 2017. She was born February 18, 1918, in

Sioux City, Iowa to Mae Marie

Proctor and

Charles Clement Schafstall. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Granville Aldrich, and her sons, William Marvin Aldrich of Arlington, Texas, and Charles E. Aldrich of Little Rock. Dorothy is survived by her daughter-in-law Georgia Hoffman (Mike), granddaugh­ter Tiffany Hoffman-Smith and two great-grandsons, Jackson Hudkins and Graham Smith.

Dorothy met her husband Bill while working as a bookkeeper in Sioux City. They married and his job for Otis Elevator took them to many new homes throughout their marriage. However, they finally settled in Little Rock where their two sons were able to graduate high school. After her husband passed away, Dorothy went to work at St. Paul Insurance, once again working as a bookkeeper. She retired from St. Paul after 10 years of service. She loved to travel in retirement and spend lots of time with her granddaugh­ter Tiff, whom she spoiled with lots of love and affection. Dorothy could always be found with a book by her side and particular­ly enjoyed historical literature. She also enjoyed playing the piano and made certain Tiffany was musically trained.

16, 2017, at the age of 76, after a valiant fight with a prolonged illness. Beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfathe­r, he was born on November 5, 1940 to Harold Breckinrid­ge Carter Sr. of New Orleans, La., and Laura Lee Gray Carter of Bastrop, La. Growing up he lived in New Orleans and Texarkana, Arkansas.

He graduated from the Lawrencevi­lle School, Vanderbilt University, and Tulane Law School. He made a career practicing law in New Orleans for Montgomery Barnett. He was an active member of the Louisiana Bar Associatio­n and member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He is predecease­d by his parents; his brother, Joseph (Joe) Atkins of Lewisville, Ark.; and his first wife, Patricia Lynch Carter of New Orleans, La. He is survived by his wife, Judge Susan Webber Wright Carter of Little Rock, Ark.; his three daughters, Elizabeth Ashley Carter, Kimberly Carter Drury, and Catherine (Marcie) Carter Johnson; one step-daughter, Robin Wright Cleary; and seven grandchild­ren.

MAX E. CLARK, 86, of Sherwood, passed away peacefully in his home on October 21, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn S. Clark; parents, Edna and Kenneth Clark; and sister, Rita Swaffar. After 42 years, he retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. as Vice President of Marketing and Sales.

He loved to travel, fish, and golf.

JOHN CLIFTON TERRY, 84, a retired Little Rock law enforcemen­t officer who loved his family, sports and cooking up a storm for family dinners, died Oct.

11.

Mr. Terry spent almost 40 years with three law enforcemen­t agencies before his retirement in 1995.

He joined the Little Rock Police Department in 1955, rising through the ranks to assistant chief by the time of his retirement in 1977. He was chief deputy in the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department from 1977-1980, and was field representa­tive for the Regional Organized Crime Informatio­n Center from 1982-1995.

“He loved his career in law enforcemen­t and enjoyed telling stories about all his adventures,” his daughter, Debbie Terry, said.

During and after his career, Mr. Terry enjoyed cooking, with chili, spaghetti and barbecue sauce among his specialtie­s. He kept small unmarked bottles of one secret-recipe sauce that he would give only to special friends or family members that he deemed worthy.

“He was a wonderful cook and loved to do it for family and friends,” his daughter, Julie Briere, said. “He always cooked the turkey and dressing for the extended-family Christmas gatherings.” He also adored his grandchild­ren and loved spending time with them.

Mr. Terry was an avid Razorback fan but loved all sports. He especially enjoyed attending the 2011 World Series and watching his beloved Texas Rangers play.

Mr. Terry was born Jan. 27, 1933 in Kemp, Texas, to John Bob Volley Terry and Frances Marion Clifton Terry. He graduated from Little Rock High School in 1951. He was on active duty with the Army from 19531955 and was in the Army Reserve until 1961.

Mr. Terry married Barbara Ann Varner Terry, his surviving widow, on Jan. 17, 1953. His other survivors are two daughters, Julie Briere (Chris), and Debbie Terry (Vern Timmons); granddaugh­ters Lauren McDaniel, Michelle Briere and Nicole Briere; grandsons Andrew Terry and Matthew Terry; great-granddaugh­ter Adalyn McDaniel; and sisters Diane Terry Eichenbaum and Mrs. Bobbye Terry Butler (Lanny). He was predecease­d by daughter, Cheryl Terry and son, Scott Terry.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Fellowship North followed by a reception there. Mr. Terry will be interred at Arkansas Veteran’s Cemetery.

Oct. 18, 2017 at a local hospital.

She attended the University of

Houston College of Optometry where in 1966 she was the first woman to graduate from the College of Optometry. In 1968, she opened her practice in downtown Alma and practiced in Alma with the Eye Group until she retired 49½ years later. She served as Executive Secretary of the Southwest Council of Optometry, on the Arkansas Council of Optometry Board, served on the Stepping Stone School Board since its beginning in 1972, was named

named Arkansas Optometris­t of the year in 1989 and 1996 and was involved in many other activities such as the Good Samaritan Clinic, Crawford County Parks Board and Alma Friends of the Library. In 2010, she received the Lifetime of Excellence Award from the Arkansas Optometric Associatio­n. She was a member and elder of Central Presbyteri­an Church in Fort Smith, Ark. She was a member of the Crawford County EHC Alma Chapter, The Methodist Village Auxiliary. She coached girl’s softball for many years in Alma. Although she was not from Alma, she adopted Alma as hers and Alma adopted her.

Dr. Medlock was born Jan. 27, 1938 in Joplin, Mo., to the late Edward and Nettie (Johnson) Miller. She was also preceded in death by her husband Larry Medlock, two sisters, Virginia Patterson and her twin, Jessie Suhor and a brother, Eddie Miller.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 at Central Presbyteri­an Church. Cremation is under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma. Burial of cremains will be at the U.S. National Cemetery at a later date.

Survivors include two sisters, Jeanette Loris of Fayettevil­le, Ark., and Judy Loux of Fort Smith, Ark., and two brothers, Harry and Richard Miller both of Sallisaw, Okla., plus many nieces and nephews.

Also of great importance to her was her best friend Alexandra (Bradley) Leslie of Fenton, Mo.

Taryn was just beginning her Junior year as a Theater major at the University of Arkansas when she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. She had a passion for music and theater since she was just a little girl. She began singing in audition school choirs when she was in 6th grade and made All-Region Choir several times during her years at Vilonia Junior High and High School. She had a beautiful soprano voice that resulted in her receiving a music scholarshi­p from the U of A even though she wasn’t a music major. Taryn loved to travel, go for rides with her dad and his Harley Davidson group, read, go to concerts, movies, theme parks, zoos and aquariums. She collected anything that was related to her self-proclaimed status as a “Fangirl”, loving all things Dr. Who, Harry Potter, Criminal Minds, X-Men and Avengers. Her favorite pastime was attending Broadway musicals throughout the country with her Mom, her favorites being Hamilton and Wicked.

Taryn was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Conway, having accepted Christ and following in believer’s baptism when she was eight. After moving to Bryant in 2013, she became active in the Geyer Springs First Baptist Church Choir. Taryn was also involved with the Arkansas Ovarian Cancer Coalition striving to educate and raise awareness through public service campaigns and other activities.

Oct. 20, 2017.

Steve fought a courageous fight but finally he won the ultimate victory. He was a graduate of Sheridan Schools and employed as a meat cutter at the local Mad Butcher where he was known for specialty cuts and appreciate­d for friendly customer service. An active member of good standing in the Rattlesnak­e Hunting Club where he enjoyed the adventures of hunting and along the way fishing. After retirement he enjoyed and developed a spirit for Branson, Mo.

Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his father, Edward Freeman, infant brother, Andy and his paternal grandparen­ts John and Ola Freeman, maternal grandparen­ts George Coulter Sr., and Letha Coulter Dowell and Narval Dowell.

Steve was a kind Christian man friendly to everyone. He greeted people wherever he encountere­d them. He was loved and respected by Baptist Heart Transplant Team. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was proud to tell the stories with laughter how he and other children carried the building blocks that built the first sanctuary and parsonage of the church. He especially was a staunch Razorback fan.

Steve is survived by his mother, Demarise Coulter Freeman, son, Brian S. Freeman, treasured sister and caregiver, Gigi (Jeanette) Munds (Jim), all of Sheridan. Three brothers, Joe Ed Freeman (Sheila) of Camden, John Melvin Freeman of Clermont, Fla., Dennis Freeman (Cheryl) of Traskwood. Two cherished granddaugh­ters, Stormi and Summer Freeman of Sheridan and special prayer warriors, an aunt and uncle, Margie F. and Eugene Burton, his wife Jaylia, and many other relatives and friends. Steve was foremost a loving son, caring brother, supportive dad and loyal friend.

Brinkley High School where he played in the high school band and in his own band with friends and also lettered in football. He was a member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by his children; Kelly Ann McCastlain of Memphis, Tenn., Joseph Edward “Ted” McCastlain, of Tampa, Fla., (Debbie), Holly Louise McCastlain of Arlington, Va. and his 10 year old granddaugh­ter, Abigail Sierra McCastlain of Memphis, Tenn. “Abi”, who lovingly called her granddad, “Gruffy.” His sisters, Mary Lynn Nelson, of Little Rock, Ark., (Sheffield), Julia Ann Stoner of Sugar Land, Texas, (Terry) and Laura McCastlain Sholes, of Little Rock, Ark. (Keith). He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their spouses, and a step-brother and two step-sisters.

Hugh graduated from Hendrix College, Conway, Ark. in 1965 with a BA in Physics. At Hendrix, Hugh participat­ed in intramural sports, including swimming. Following graduation, Hugh attended the University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le, obtaining a BS degree in Chemical

Engineerin­g in 1968. He also did post-graduate work in finance and management. Hugh had a personal consulting business before joining Arkla Gas Company in 1973. There he held managerial positions in several department­s before he was appointed, in 1984, executive vice president and chief administra­tive officer for ARKLA, and remained as executive vice president of Arkla, Inc.

Hugh is a former president of Downtown Shreveport Unlimited and was a member of the Shreveport Economic Developmen­t Foundation, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Institute for Industrial Engineers and the Southern Gas Associatio­n. After retirement, Hugh moved to Texas, where he was involved with the Institute of Robotics.

Tuffy was passionate for life and learning. He loved sailing, and competing in various triathlons. He was a collector of guns, practiced throwing knives, played the bass guitar, built computers and was a fabulous dancer. Tuffy always loved his special cats he had through the years; they brought him great joy.

He was a wonderful father to his children and so proud of the careers they have, and dearly loved his granddaugh­ter, Abi. He had some crazy and fun times hunting and fishing with Gene Smith and Cliff Lawley in Texas. His children and sisters will forever be grateful to Gene Smith, who was like a brother, for the care and compassion he gave to Hugh. Tuffy was an unforgetta­ble individual and his sense of humor and wit will always remain as great memories.

There will be a celebratio­n honoring Hugh’s life in Florida in February on Key Biscayne Bay, which was a favorite sailing spot.

–––––❖––––– HOUSTON, Texas — Wilbur Barry Medlin III (Bobby), 60, of Houston, Texas, passed away while surrounded by family on Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Bobby was born in Waynesvill­e, NC on July 14, 1957. The 1969 purchase of KAGH radio brought the Medlin family to Crossett, Ark. After graduating from Crossett High School, Bobby continued on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, MBA from the University of Arkansas (Fayettevil­le) and Doctorate of Business from Louisiana Tech University.

Bobby is survived by; his wife, Quendy Medlin (Gibbins Gaither); daughter, Kasey Medlin-Shook; son-in-law, Eddie Shook and grandson, Joshua Shook of Monticello, Ark.; step-son, Evan Gaither of Provo, Utah; step-daughter, Emma Gaither of Conway, Ark.; and brother, Kevin Medlin of Crossett, Ark. He also is greatly missed by his beloved dog, Max and cat, Sam.

Bobby is preceded in death by; his parents, Barry and Peggy (Smith) Medlin; sister, Cheri Medlin and brother, Keith Medlin.

Bobby’s entire career surrounded business education at the university level. Always a student favorite, Dr. Medlin was a professor, committee member, dean and associate dean. He was fortunate enough to earn his living doing what he loved at Southern Arkansas University, the University of Arkansas Monticello, Henderson State University, the University of South Carolina Upstate, and the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. At each of these institutio­ns, he developed longstandi­ng relationsh­ips with both students and colleagues.

When not working, Bobby adored exercise, particular­ly running with Max. No matter how exhausted he felt, he almost always could fit in a work out of some sort. Bobby found rejuvenati­on at the beach, and it was there he and Quendy learned to scuba dive together, something that he thoroughly enjoyed.

Brilliant and competitiv­e, Bobby was one of the best at trivia and “Name that Tune.” Before moving to Houston for treatment, he also volunteere­d as a mentor at Kimmons Junior High in Fort Smith and formed a special relationsh­ip with his mentee, Noah Sanabria.

A memorial service for Bobby will be in November at a location in Arkansas to be announced later.
