Hardly worth reading
I must agree with a couple of recent letter-writers about the op-ed pages: They’ve become stale and uninteresting. Some new voices would be refreshing.
Instead, we’re left with the musings of Paul Greenberg and his romantic memories of the South, complete with mossy oaks, etc. But he honestly never has anything to say (weren’t we promised he was retiring?). And I couldn’t care less about Philip Martin’s pets, or his house in the Heights or Hillcrest, or wherever. Stick to criticizing movies, Phil.
Mike Masterson devotes an entire column recently to alleged letters people wrote him about some other column. How egotistical can one get? And honestly, I don’t care what words or phrases offend the sensibilities of Brenda Looper, and I seriously doubt anyone else does.
Bradley Gitz? This poor soul, he’s become so confused in Batesville in being unable to defend the Trump administration that he’s taken to writing about 100-year-old arcane books no one is ever going to read.
What’s left? John Brummett, and he is the one columnist I still read. I disagree with him about 60 percent of the time, but his columns are actually about things that are real in our lives here in Arkansas, and his political insight into government actually gives me more than words: Whether I agree or not, I learn information in his opinion.
As to the rest: Talking a lot, saying a little. At least that’s my “opinion.” CASEY ALEXANDER
